Why exactly is it a “big deal”?

Indiana had all kinds of issues against them. tOSU red zone defense is the best I have seen in a long time. Indiana truly had to make great plays taking risks to move the ball downfield and score.

Ohio states D will compete like that against any team in the country. Athletes and NFL players everywhere.

But is their team? 2/3 might be settled on the field anyway soon enough

It’s notable in the sense that it really discredits and even contradicts the logic being used by the committee (it’s pretty evident they don’t and never really have had a logic and are cherry picking results to justify teams up and down the rankings and across seasons). Doesn’t really tell us anything we didn’t already know or assume but it is funny that within the first 3 spots of the ranking they went about discrediting the whole concept of a conference championship game having any weight whatsoever… this year. Whereas in past years, CCG losers dropped at least 2 if not 5 (Oregon in 2023) and 6 (UGA in 2023) spots after CCG losses.

I hear you but I don’t think it matters. I’d take Georgia over the field regardless.

it shows what the committee values and how they are ranking teams. it shows the value (or lack thereog, or complete inconsistency) of CCGs.

people only think it's not a big deal because they think uga got a good draw, which we don't even know to be true.

uga now potentially doesnt play in atlanta in semis.

lots of reasons why and in other years it could matter way more than it does this year. i just dont really understand why the committee is being given a free pass on this situation. never before would these 2 teams have been ranked this way.

Georgia lost in the regular season and Ohio state went undefeated in the regular season and only lost in the conference championship, in a thrilling game, to a team that was ranked #2
Makes sense to me tbh

really? Because there's bigger fish to fry, that's why.
It was surprising, but not outrageous. And if the impact was severe (e.g: the massive difference between the 6 and 7 seeds opponents) then it would be more talked about.

that has NEVER been the discussion before. georgia and ohio state both played conference championship games. they absolutely CAN and SHOULD be evaluated and compared on all 13 games. we are ranking these elite teams on the margins, that's all we have.

does only who you lost to matter? who you beat is more important than who you lose to. that is, i guess, a subjective opinion, and both have their place in the discussion, but neither is the sole deciding factor in an entire resume.

Both of those matters, as does how you look in every game of the year. It isn't just wins/losses vs good/bad teams it's also metrics in how you looked in those games. Did you lose a game without your starting QB or did you win a game when the other team didn't have 3 of their best players? did you control the game? Did fluke plays happen. All of that can and should weigh in for overall resumes.

In the end, I would have had UGA 2 and OSU 3, but as I said, I think they didn't do that because that would ironically potentially give the easier path to OSU at 3 than OSU at 2

i suppose this is possible.

but it's also surprising as it creates a a UGA-Ole Miss rematch. And if you flip it, you get 2 new match ups and a potential Miami-UGA match up which would be spicy.

all that to say, i don't necessarily think they are playing the match-up projection game because what ended up occurring is the worse option for those.

probably because that rank would be warranted for you as a 1-loss non champion.

Reminds me of the '06 game between Michigan-Ohio State where they were ranked 1/2 and Herbstreet and others pushed for a rematch in the national championship. Then Florida dog walked Ohio State.

Don't worry friend, I think Georgia does it this time.

I mean honestly outside of Georgia why should we care?

A team ranked 3rd played a team ranked 9th for the conference championship of, BY FAR, the nation's toughest league.

It was an arse beating that wasn't even as close as the 3 TD margin would indicate. The team ranked 3rd didn't move up, nor did the team ranked 9th move down.

You don't see why that seems pretty fricky? People shoudl care beucase the committee has absolutely zero consistency in doing things with logic and common sense.

And ask yourself what would have happened if Bama had beat UGA 28-7...would bama have moved up and would we have moved down? Oh yeah....oooooh yeah we absolutely would have. So yeah, it's fricking weird.

If Georgia lost to bama for the second time in the CC would you be fine with them being kicked out?
