ven though that ended 50 years ago, baseball has always had the most militant union unwilling to compromise on anything or give the owners anything that could be construed as a victory.
This is correct and it hurst the rank and file.....all these big money and in other years lengthy contracts that they will say are "great for the sport" really hurt the rest of the players in baseball, but they keep allowing it....they meaning the militant baseball union that IMHO you accurately describe.

Guess they can move Vientos for an arm and still sign Bellinger
I would imagine the arm being Freddy Peralta.

They need to let go of that shite, Curt Flood was a long time ago. The owners need to cut their crap too, both sides should be partners like in the other leagues. There’s enough money to go around for everyone

Absolute truth but troglodytes like Gussie Busch and M. Donald Grant are in hell right now, this is a different group of owners.

Aren’t the Dodgers the only team allowed to keep all of their tv money?
Only because they bought ownership in Sports Spectrum TV. So sorry the Dodgers are superior at business as well as baseball. They went out and invested in Broadcast media and are reaping the rewards. Most other teams don't have that kind of business foresight. But actually the Yankees make more $$$ off their TV rights but they aren't good at building a team.

Manfred blocked other teams from running the same deferred compensation scam.
The rumored Padres block wasn't over deferred money which is absolutely protected by the CBA
It was because they were arbitrarily lengthening the agreement to lower the AAV

While yes, it was a good decision there were also VERY fortunate in the timing of the deal on a couple of fronts and other circumstances that in no way do I believe they knew were coming, converged together in a perfect storm to turn it in to the monster it has become.

How is it arbitrary if the player agrees to it? Doesn’t the CBA say there is no limit to how long it can be deferred?
I thought lowering the AAV was the whole point?

He absolutely did not.

Will dodger fans continue to boo Tucker?

quote:its how you do it. The Dodgers were able to offered deferred money because the showed to baseball that they had the present day value if the contract covered and wouldnt have any financial issues funding that amount into an escrow account every year
thought lowering the AAV was the whole point
What the Padres were rumored to have done was not that but literally offer him a contract that would have Judge on the actual team until he was in his mid 40s because they weren't convinced they could reasonably show they could cover the present day value of the contract

Probably not since he wasn't on the 2017 team. Wow. That was an easy answer to a stupid question

Been a huge Reds fan my entire life, and MLB has been my favorite sports going back to 1977, but I'm about done with this shite. I've had MLB.TV so I could watch every game I wanted, but I'm about to cancel it, not attend another game, or buy anymore merchandise until this shite gets fixed.

Some ranking had them as the #2 best run franchise is pro sports behind a euro soccer club.

I know, I was watching an interview with Teoscar Hernandez where he talked about how smart the Dodgers fans are for booing even though he’s been so productive for them
