This really feels like a first in CFB, certainly in the playoff era. As an industry source noted, Gene Chizik and Ed Orgeron were fired relatively soon after national championship seasons, but to do it halfway through the season after a Big Ten runner-up and CFP semifinal ...

That playoff semifinal was fools' gold. They lucked out with the fricked up seeding. A LOT of teams could have beaten SMU at home and Boise State at a neutral site. What they did was not special.

The beat reporters were saying that as well. As soon as they walked into the locker room after the game, the reporters could tell he had basically given up and was finished.

This would honestly be the perfect fit for Brian Kelly. It would get him back up North close to the east coast where he is from. He could be a complete a-hole to everyone around him while winning 9-10 games a year until retirement.

Penn St. should go ahead and take him.

If Moore melts down at Michigan at the end of the year here, I would love BK. But, the arrogant Michigan culture and fanbase rejects outsiders and wouldn't do it.

I want normalcy and lack of turnover but if we could get Kiffen and keep Baker I would make that deal tomorrow.

What were they wanting him to do differently?

What?

110 wins, B2B natties, 3 SEC titles, 5-2 playoff record, and 4 playoff appearances. He's the best coach in the sport and it's not close.

How the hell is that a crapshoot?

1. Pretty sure Penn St. wears Nike.

2. I don’t think anyone at adidas cares about the state of the programs themselves.

WHOA if true

Why???… it’s a money game now… the only remedy against these ridiculous buyouts is to align with a major corporation who could pay it out… that or a extremely wealthy booster

Fair.

But it is his alma mater and it is in Midtown Atlanta, the capital and biggest city in the South, the 6th largest media market, and is smack in the middle of arguably the best recruiting ground in the entire nation.

Now compare that to being in State College.

Guarantee there will be a handful of posters on here who cite his overall winning % (by beating up bad teams) to claim the firing is unwarranted

Sounds like LSUs hiring of BK. His record was 92-39 but 20-21 vs ranked teams and 4-11 against top 15

Hell no. BK is just a crap coach when it comes to coaching against top tier opponents. Just like Franklin

Oddest siting with Franklin. Was in Punta Cana for a friends 50th. It was like a Tuesday when we came home. Flight back was Punta Cana to Charlotte to BR. Franklin was on our flight to Charlotte. Then Franklin was on our flight from Charlotte to BR.

They did luck out with the seeding, but I think they were clearly a top 6ish team as well. It's still fairly shocking for a team to fire their coach after the season Penn State had last year.

I fully get why they did it though. After losing to Oregon twice last year, then choking the game this year. Proceeding to lose to 2 of the worst P4 teams in the nation. While watching a lesser talented Indiana team dominate Oregon in Autzen. That camel's back was broken in 100 places by that point.
