As I said in another thread, don’t take 10-2/9-3 football for granted. I don’t think you should fire a guy for one bad year. But, something must be wrong internally for them to do that now.

Nebraska and Tennessee made those same mistakes years ago and it took them decades to recover

Penn St A.D. to his secretary--"If North Carolina's A.D. calls I'm not in."

There must be cultural issues or the donors hate him. I noticed the other day the hockey team plays in Pegula Ice Arena. The Pegulas own the Sabres and Bills (and their daughter is 6 in the world in tennis) and they paid $80 million for the ice arena and to get men's and women's hockey up and running. Maybe they are paying the buyout.

They’re also paying the NIL for Gavin McKenna, who is projected to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft.

Penn State has a huge alumni base with very deep pockets. They’re tired of being the bridesmaid.

The worst for Nebraska IMO was Solich. Pelini had teams with huge flaws that he refused to acknowledge. But both of those firings killed us for 25+ years.

And Pelini told all of his bosses to F off, that usually doesn't end in a promotion...

Auburn is currently in that hire-fire-hire cycle, too

They're a better option than Penn State, too

Oh, I’ve been thinking Aubie is insane to already want to change again. Who do they think they are?

I think I’m even more curious who goes after Franklin than who PSU hires.

I like the Auburn idea, but maybe it’s a bad fit.

I don't know. The ceiling has been higher but the terrain is much rougher.

This is the reason I want CBK to work out badly, the risks of going into the sink hole after making the wrong hire is worse than 9-3 could ever be. There’s programs like Florida and Auburn who have struck out for a decade plus.

I think Spurrier said when he left Florida for the NFL that people start to get tired of you after about a decade, regardless of what you accomplished.

There might be something wrong internally, but it seems more likely that things have just gotten stale in State College, and boosters got tired of supporting a guy who couldn't get over the hump.

I don't understand firing him now. No coach worth a damn is leaving his team this week and any coach they want now has a long arse window to negotiate with their current team.

This is probably more about keeping the money people happy and keeping the stands full.

Exactly. I don’t want to get in that hire fire cycle. We got lucky to get back to respectable after Ogre tanked the program to chase whores.

BK and Harbaugh are great examples of why you stick with your guy. BK re-tooled after a 4-8 at ND and righted the ship. Harbaugh finally got real success in year 7.
