Well I probably have my glasses on of course but when I saw that live i was in absolute shock

becuase its a judgment call its difficult to tell if the ref is at fault or not because the ref could have a clock in his head for when he blows the whistle, like if he is held for 3 seconds he blows the whistle the internal clock may have not gone off.

ok thanks for clearing this up for me
So most people think it was a bad call b/c the whistle should have been blown. I agree and that's kind of what I was arguing.

You could argue the correct call was made.
It wasn't nearly that bad.

pretty bad
I just saw the replay on Sports Center...
Not as bad as the spot in the Rams vs Seahawks game but it was pretty bad...
He got hit on the 4 and driven 3 yards into the endzone before he broke away.
Nothing like the play in the LSU/Auburn game.
BAD CALL!

Only because it wasn't blown dead.
But since they decided not to blow it dead, the right call was made.

Exactly. And technically, you can't say it's a bad call, since it's the ref's discretion, but still, I would have blown it dead once he was about a yard in the endzone, let alone the 2-3 he was when he broke the tackle.
ETA: And wow, it's nearly 4am. I need to go to bed.

If you look at the replay, he is moving LATERALLY and not forward when he makes it out of the tackle. So his FORWARD progress was stopped. It was a honestly shitty call that made me almost freak out.

Not sure if that makes a difference or not. I don't know, but watching the game live, my first words were "That's a safety, he gave up his forward progress."
After watching the replay, I still thought it was. But maybe you're right and he didn't ever go forward again after coming out of the tackle. I'm not sure you even have to go forward again, or maybe I am misinterpreting the rule.
Idk, whatever. Congrats on the win.

Thanks brah. It was most certainly in my mind our ball on the 2. I would feel the same way if it was vice versa. And then the false start on our next possesion when we had the ball driving a little to answer their scores. And two DL were in the neutral zone. I almost flipped.
And the missed 12 men on the field call. Oh well, we won.

It was certainly a tale of two halves. Ohio State got most of the breaks and bounces in the 1st half, and Arkansas got most of the breaks and bounces in the 2nd half.

JT played not to lose in the second half. It made for an interesting ending that's for sure.

quote:Apparently, this is the first football game you have ever seen. If the offensive player restarts his forward momentum, the spot changes. It is a routine call, it just seemed not routine because it was the end zone.
i push him behind the marker, then let go of him, wait for him to try and go forward again, and tackle him. Is he short of the 1st down marker? Because stuff like that happens in every game and they always give the first down
Frankly, I'm shocked they made the call because refs are notorious for making ridiculous spots in order to avoid calling for a safety. It was the right call. Get over it.

the don't give the receiver forward progress everytime, they only do if he never goes forward again. calls like the one last night happen all the time. would you be complaining if the osu guy had broken the tackle in the endzone and then ran for 20 yards instead of him breaking the tackle then getting tackled again in the endzone?

Very bad call.
Forward progress stopped way before he broke the goal line.

it was the right call, but you typically never see the refs not stop forward progress in that situation.
So by the book correct, by precedent wrong call.
