Trev Alberts is doing his press conference now.

"The contract is the contract, and we will honor it as we always have". Frost got the full buyout, im assuming boosters were involved.

Says decision was made last night (Trev always stands in the same area on the sideline in front of our seats, I didn't see him come out after halftime). Not much mention of starting 1-2, rather 16-31 over 4 years and giving players that have invested so much energy into the program a new chance to finish out the season.

Made clear that this is now Mickey's team and sounds like a tryout to see how he rallies the team

If Nebraska really paid the full buyout then they are legit retarded. Waste of 7 million dollars

Warren Buffet probably paid it with his spare change.

Gives Nebraska a head start on the coaching search over other teams who will be looking to replace coaches at the end of the season

Well I stand corrected. Sounds like they paid the full buyout as a gesture of goodwill to their son of Nebraska. Sounds dumb to me, but whatever.

Admire Nebraska for eating that buyout. It had to be done. A booster must have stepped up.

Frost was the Nebraska QB in 96-97 and they love him. He didn’t work out as coach but I figure they didn’t want to be assholes and short him 8 million.

I’d throw money at the App State coach

I doubt money was seriously considered, just the timing. The B10 inked that massive deal, these ADept's are all about to get boat loads of money.

Trev is pretty careful with words, but my take was Scott's job security was hotter than probably most fan's realized coming into the year. He probably was gone today even with a win last night. I think the first two games of the season showed enough that the team was not improving and that this was his last season. Losing to Geogia Southern was just permission to bump it up and use it to unite and energize the fanbase for the rest of a season that has 9 games left

UNL doesn't recruit itself. Neither did Mississippi State.

State of Mississippi has a lot of in state talent

Nebraska not so much

Also showing “goodwill” to Frost and paying the full contract could be a move to make the job attractive to a big name coach.

Nobody wants to take on that task especially if they think they’ll get shorted on the contract if they fail

This worked out so well for Louisville and Missouri. App is really a culture at this point, and while I like Clark, I’m not convinced he’s a P5 coach

Them firing him and not waiting for the buyout to drop by half in literally 3 weeks shows their desperation and why they will continue to suck for years to come.

You wait and hold onto that money. You aren’t winning shite this season with Mickey as your head coach and when you realize their defense is atrocious and why they are losing.

Frost needed to be let go, but this is just blatant stupidity at ours finest.

Other than doing a former player a solid in terms of added money, I don’t understand the move this early.

only reason i can think of, is if Nebraska theoretically were to beat OU convincingly (10-17 points) and really put a thumping on Indiana, how do you fire him then?

now, at least you can say, "we fired a guy who was 1-2, with a downward trajectory over the past 4.5 years, and almost assuredly will lose to OU. so let's end the suffering and be done with it"

it'd be a strange situation if Nebraska beat OU and indiana (i know it's unlikely, but still) and frost got fired right after

See, this is what is so crazy to me. The season is completely fricked. You can't wait 3 more games to save 7 million dollars?

It's just monopoly money for these universities and I'm just living in the real world like "What the frick?"
