He's pretty arrogant. He gets away with more holding, PI, and all the other bullshite than any CB I've watched, probably ever.
I personally thought he was hilarious as crap when he dicked brady last year, but the antics building up to this just show he thinks he's the greatest ever. I mean sure, people push and he probably thinks, but SHERMAN IS A STANFORD graduate, but a degree in communications is probably top 5 in 'easiest degree to get'.
He got a 24 on the wonderlic from someone who thinks he's so smart, that's pretty low for a 'stanford graduate'

Ahhh so dumbing him down over his major and wonderlic test is the new tactic.

You must not have watched very much of Revis Island then lol.

I meant to say since revis' 'best days' that was pretty god awful too. Like I've said in previous threads, the more you become a 'shutdown corner' the more shite you get away with.
He comes off as arrogant and thinks he's better than someone because he graduated from "STANFORD" and someone else didn't. Is talking in more details about his time at stanford and an idiot test for the NFL combine off limits? I mean if he thinks he's the best at everything or 'I'm better than you' attitude, you may as well see if he is in every aspect

I feel bad for the guy. Tremendous success in his profession and he has shown the mentality of a bitter child on multiple occasions. I'm sure Richard's father is proud of the way his son is carrying himself.

He raised a son that was accepted to Stanford, made it to the NFL, and is now the top corner in the league. A certified All-Pro that makes millions of dollars, isn't afraid to express his emotions and doesn't bow down to the whims of milquetoast America.
I'm sure he's a very proud father.

Sherman invites the criticism by his arrogant demeanor. It'd be the same for any arrogant prick whether he be black/white/Asian and play football/baseball/golf/tennis. How you can't see that says a lot about you.

That whole interview made him look like a total tool and I don't even like Bayless.
Everyone seems to forget that Skip had spent ample time talking about Sherman like he wasn't in the same stratosphere as Revis. That's just absurd, and it's a typical Skip Bayless quote. I'm not even a Sherman fan, but this shite is above and beyond overblown. Skip deserved every bit of it because that's how he talks to everyone else. He gets away with making those statements and being absolutely obnoxious statements without having to ever be held to them. Whether it's Tebowmania or calling Lebron overrated, the guy is over the top and obnoxious, and he gets paid a king's ransom to be that. Every person who turns the tables on him is doing a good thing.
As for the post game, I don't think it's half as bad as the world makes it out to be. It just wasn't the typical "Those guys are all great players who deserve to go to the Super Bowl, but we executed better. I hope they all accomplish great things as parents, husbands, and people in their lives and live happily ever after." post-game interview. It was a bit obnoxious, and it was absolutely hilarious. I don't think he's a thug or a POS, and if you were to call everyone who spoke like that, every player in the league would fit it at some point or another. The most interesting part of it all, though, is why he flew off the rails so badly. He's always been antagonistic and feeds on being a king troll, but this was a bit much even for him. He just seemingly lost his shite.
To me, it all comes down to his ego being hurt. Every time you see this from him, it's because of one thing, and it's people not respecting him as an elite corner. Anytime that happens, you see him lose his cool in some way. I think that yesterday, that's what we saw from him. One of the biggest plays of the season, and they drew one up that targeted him. I think that's why you see the choke gesture to Kaep and then the Crabtree comments. He was furious that they would think that he was the guy to try to score on. It hurt his ego and seemed like disrespectful to his talent, and so he went off and dished out some of his own. I'm not justifying, but what you saw there wasn't typical "I'm great" cocky bullshite. It was more along the line of insecure, bitter ranting. Either way, the Super Bowl should be interesting.

I never got the whole point of attacking his major, which in reality is perfect for a guy like Sherman. He'll use that communications degree after football.
And I especially don't understand how "easy" it is to not only get a degree from Stanford but also get accepted into their graduate program. Hell even being able to enroll there is tough.
A college degree is a great accomplishment wherever.

Well yeah, Skip deserved it. He still came across like a tool though IMO. All he did was do the same thing Skip does and ended up making himself look bad.
I get where he was coming from, but he could have handled himself better.

I don't think anyone has criticized his accomplishments; he's done well.
The criticism is only because when presented with the opportunity to be celebrate and share the moment with his teammates, he chose to make the spotlight about himself and a feud with Crabtree.
I'd hope anyone's father (milquetoast or otherwise) would take offense to their child's behavior in that situation.

I completely agree. In my eyes, he's the guy who is usually probably genuinely responding or retaliating, but he's always going to take it too far. If you pull a prank on him and say there's a snake near his feet, he'll throw a snake on you while you sleep.
He's just genuinely a very insecure person, it seems, and I think until this season he had every reason to have that chip on his shoulder. Just a year ago, he was out on Bourbon doing that "Revis or Sherman" video. Most of the people had no idea who he was, and outside of a few people, they all talked about Sherman like he was a scrub and on drugs, which he took pretty damn well. Even worse was that a bunch were Niners "fans" whose team played him twice that year.
As for the Brady incident, I don't believe for a second that Tom Brady didn't talk the alleged shite that spurred it. I think Sherman just is just more candid than most NFL players, but he's not much different from most of them at all.

Heres a fun hypothetical;
If in two years, Tyrann Mathieu is as good as Sherman is (which isn't that far fetched) and he were to act like this after they beat someone to go to the Super Bowl, would this many people defend him?

They did it the entire time he was at LSU. I can think of very few people who were as openly arrogant as a player as Mathieu, and people said "He's a playmaker and backs it up." It wasn't until he was no longer making plays for LSU that those people labeled him a thug, POS, and troublemaker. We had so much "swagger" when he was on the team, and people apparently loved it.
It's only terrible to be over the top for most people when it's not who they want to win. For example, I'd fricking hate Jimmy Graham with a burning passion if he played for anyone but the Saints.

My point is, I feel like a lot of people are defending him because "he's a Stanford grad". I'd like to see how they would react to a kid from the South who was kicked out of school.
Posted on 1/20/14 at 4:06 pm to lsuhunt555
I feel like the vast majority of the people are not defending him, though. The amount of negative reactions is several times the amount of positive reactions or defensive stances on the subject. I don't think graduating from Stanford excuses how he acted, but it is a defense to the crowd screaming that he's just stupid, ignorant piece of shite. He may be a piece of shite, but he isn't stupid or ignorant.
The way I look at it is that he was absolutely arrogant and obnoxious, and he's a player you either love or love to hate. That being said, he did nothing of any real negative impact on the world, and some of the hatred spewed, particularly exhibit in the Deadspin article about stupid people's racist reactions to Richard Sherman, is absolutely out of line. He's a football player who made some less-than-flattering remarks about another player and gloated a little bit. I see ton of holier-than-thou "He shouldn't teach children to gloat! He's classless! They look up to him!" responses, but if he's a bad influence for that, you shouldn't let your kids even watch football. His role models will have multiple DUIs, rage problems, and a million other things. At the end of the day, he really didn't do anything "wrong". He just rubbed a lot of people the wrong way.
