The PGA died after Tiger/Phil stopped winning. No one gives two shits about Scottie Schefffler.
And no one is gonna care about regular PGA events no matter what rules you change. There’s the majors (really three bc no one cares about the PGA)…and that’s that.

Yeah but their viewership is still up

Yet another pro sport I enjoy that will become watered down and worse than it was due to the lure of more TV and corporate money.
This is common to publicly traded companies chasing profit growth quarter after quarter.

The PGA had to come off some money. That was it. Major overreaction and a terrible decision.
I watch the Masters, the Thursday and Friday of the US Open, and a majority of the Open. Not much in between. Even I know this is a shite idea.

Up from what? The lowest number ever?
Go compare Golf TV ratings today to say 2004. It’s not close. Those days are never ever coming back

You just described exactly why they are doing this. Most golf fans watch the majors. They are trying to do something to bring those viewers in more often.

They already have the 8 signature events. I don’t see why that needs to change. But I am curious to learn more about how the relegation is going to happen and how often it’s gonna happen.
Selfishly I just hope the RBC doesn’t take a hit.

The big problem with the Zurich's spot on the schedule is because of the SE Louisiana agronomy. There is a very small window during the year where they can get that course in the condition they need for a PGA Tour event.
The signature event at Doral the week after this year's Zurich is going to completely destroy any chance of the non-Zurich sponsored big names coming. I can't see Rory/Shane coming again. Expect Morikawa to be the headliner.
Masters
RBC (Sig event)
Zurich
Cadillac (Sig Event)
Which one do you think the top guys are skipping

Golf will always be a niche sport. Nothing will change that, ever
This is simply them having to find a way to cut costs because golf became a sport that is paying 10x the actual worth to players

It's a non-Ryder Cup year so it'll be full of internationals trying to prepare for the President's Cup. Morikwara hates TPC Louisiana so Billy Ho is basically the spokesman for the event now.
Brooks may be there trying to get status for other events with a win.
Some golfers use Zurich as a vacation spot anyway, so instead of sitting at home guys like Hovland and Ryder Cup buddies will get together for a stress free weekend.

We know what tier the Zurich will be in
Because it’s different and the location, it won’t be elite, but would be near the top of the second tier.

In previous years the Zurich was followed up by the Byron Nelson. Its now followed by a Signature event at Doral. That is gonna drive away the top guys who need a week off after the Masters and RBC. I do think Rory has skipped RBC a few times so many there is a chance he comes back.

m57,
Add another signature event after the Cadillac.
4 really big tournaments with the Zurich sandwiched in between them.
Masters
RBC (Sig event)
Zurich
Cadillac (Sig Event)
Truist (Signature Event)
