Tom Brady is selfish. Pretty simple to see. His wife told him it was time and he couldn’t put football down for his family.
Simple as that.

I bet he makes it through the season then this retirement sticks.
He has been extraordinarily lucky in his career with regards to injuries, with the one major one I can remember being the week 1 knee blowout that put Matt Cassel under center for a year.
Eventually, he’ll get Theismann’ed if he keeps staying out there. Either snapping a leg or getting his fricking bell rung like Steve Young when Lawrence Phillips missed a block.
