Is there much of a precedent for 2 top 15-20 players, 1 being fringe top 5, in their prime playing together healthy and finishing around .500?
No idea. There also isn't much precedent with the those two guys being bigs, especially considering the amount of garbage around them aside from Holliday who is just an average starting PG.
I just don't see it.

assuming teams like Utah (No hayward/hill) and LAC (No Griffin/Paul) take a step back, the "locks" are more than likely only GSW, SAS, HOU, OKC.
Which means 5-8 would be up for grabs. New Orleans, Dallas, Portland have an offseason to mesh together. Memphis may lose a few key guys as well and they played above their roster last year. Denver confuses me, but I think they make it. Minnesota should take the other spot as well. That leaves 2 spots for what seems like a race between NOLA, Dallas, Portland, Utah, and LAC

Portland will be better than all of those teams save for the top 3 in the West.
How quickly we forget an overweight Nurkic (this cannot be stressed enough, Denver attached a 1st round pick to him just to get rid of him) made this Blazers team a top player post ASB last year.

Portland is a confusing team. Sometimes they are unexpectedly good, and sometimes they are unexpectedly bad.

I like Portland as a playoff team again next year. They were really hot post-Nurkic trade until he got hurt.

Couple notes from someone who would know: George Hill wants to stay in Utah. Spurs are his second choice, and Minnesota is lurking.

that would be interesting if Hill went back the Spurs and play with the guy they traded him for.

Maybe we should let the offseason start before we all start making blanket playoff predictions.

By the way, y'all need to set your phones to get Twitter alerts from guys like Woj, Stein, Shams, etc.
It's always a fun time of year to have your phone constantly buzzing with free agency news.

this is why I leave them as questionable.
They played like shite, Nurkic comes, they go complete 180..
Confusing to say the least, I think they're closer to what NOLA-Dallas-UTAH-LAC are than Minnesota-Denver

They def played above their level two years ago. Ed Davis was an elite defensive big man by the numbers that year
Last year what you saw was a team that couldn't defend the perimeter and had no one to alter shots around the hoop until Nurkic got here. I love our draft because we got the best shot blocker in the draft and another guy that is long with upside in Swanigan.
Also worth noting, Nurkic has declined playing for his country this summer, working on rehabbing from injury full time. Im so excited for this upcoming season. Tbh tho a lot of it hinges on Nurkic and his health.

It's great until you get 10 tweets at 3 am about something you already knew about or don't care about (like Hayward visiting the heat)
I made this mistake with schefty during NFL offseason and it got annoying real quick

What's so different about Denver now vs last season?
Portland outplayed them down the stretch. Now add Collins, a healthy Davis, Lillard not playing injury for a portion of the season (that's an underrated talking point) this team should be much better than Denver fwiw, again.

And I only turn it on during the most active part of free agency. I turn it back off when the tweets start to get more annoying because the news starts dying down.

Denver has a franchise centerpiece. Portland has dropping dimes

The standard to be better than .500 is not much different.

Ramona Shelburne @ramonashelburne General sense heading into free agency is teams are trying not to go nuts right out of the gates like last year. (???? at u Lakers/Mozgov)

Ramona Shelburne @ramonashelburne That's creating frustration amongst agents, because this year's FA class wants to be paid like last year's class.

Well tough shite to the FAs then... With the cap being adjusted downward from expectations, teams aren't going to be drunken sailors this time around thinking "This will be a bargain in a few years."
Posted on 6/30/17 at 1:24 pm to teke184
Every team realizes what a mistake last year was, and the cap has been adjusted down.
FAs better adjust their expectations.
