They played 6 true freshman on offense at the same time in the National championship. Their 2017 class is already the best of all time.

That has nothing to do with anything being discussed.

If you have ANY problem thinking he is the greatest in this day and age of recruiting limits and STILL doing what he is doing shows me you don't know shite about the history of College football...
What a surprise, PJ completely misses the point because he is too dense to understand. All I said is he’s not the greatest X’s and O’s Coach of all time that doesn’t mean he isn’t the greatest overall coach of all time the 2 are not mutually exclusive I’m sorry that you don’t know what that means.

There isn't any standardized test to gage X and O competency. I'm sure all the coaches who have coached decades are all great X and O coaches.
I completely agree but the contention was made Saban is the greatest X’s O’s coach of all time. What is that based on? Someone mentioned Meyer was better you said Meyer best Saban with better talent and Saban best Meyer with better talent. If he only wins with better talent, then I don’t see how the argument can be made he’s the best X’s and O’s coach. Obviously he’s outstanding at it and it’s kind of picking nits, but when I think of great X’s and O’s I think of innovators that changed the game. It’s most offensive coaches because defensive is reactionary. Bill Yeoman created the veer offense that changed the game at the time. Bill Walsh and the WCO. Someolike Mumme and his disciples. It’s not a knock on Saban, I realize you understand that unlike that dope PJ

What does it even mean to be the greatest X's and O's coach of all-time? Are we talking about someone who was innovative, someone who came up with a brand new offense/defense, or someone who coached his players to be in the right position on any given play?
If we're talking about someone like Bill Walsh, it must be said that his system worked because he had the talent to run it. Those 49ers teams of the mid to late 80s were oozing with talent on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball. The West Coast offense won't work if you have someone like Trent Dilfer throwing to some scrub from Western Carolina. The West Coast offense worked because you had Joe Montana throwing to Jerry Rice and Roger Craig.
The same thing can be said for teams at the collegiate level. The reason why great offensive minds like Steve Spurrier saw success in their primes is because they had the talent to run their systems. So I guess the questions one needs to answer is what exactly is an X's and O's coach and what standards are we using to judge the greatness of an X's and O's coach?

This is generally what I think of.
As for the point about Walsh and Spurrier’s systems only working because that had superior talent is false. They win at a high level and win multiple championships because of superior talent but the schemes work and work well with lesser talent. It’s usually because they have lesser talent that spurs coaches to innovate innovate in the first place. Spurrier ran the same offense at Duke, some WR named Clarkson Hines was #3 in 89 with 17TDs. The veer started at Houston in the 60s it was so successful Bryant installed it Alabama. Does Mike Leech have superior talent? Is his offense not successful?
I’ve always believed Jimmy’s and Joe’s are far more important than X’s and O’s however.

Because most coaches are wedded to a system. People were saying that Saban could never handle the modern XBOX offenses due to his love for big linemen. So he gets big fast linemen. He changed with the time.

The recruiting game creeps me out, so I try not to follow too closely, but I see this Hill kid flipped back to Michigan.

Meh...Oregon and UW are recruiting very well. SC and Stanford should finish top 20 as well.

If I were a Gump, I wouldn’t be too broken up about this kid. Guys that do all of this flipping back and forth are frequently underwhelming.

5 start DE Zach Harrison chose Ohio State.
Huge upside potential. 6'5, 240lbs that runs a 10.82 100 meter dash.
4th overall recruit.
