Any Louisiana players go in the draft tonight? Who are the top guys and when are they projected to go?
Posted on 6/8/15 at 11:11 pm to D011ahbi11
Andrew Stevenson's the only one I saw.
Posted on 6/8/15 at 11:12 pm to lsutigers1992
Yea, I saw that. Was wondering more about HS guys.

Not unless one went to an out-of-state college.
Posted on 6/8/15 at 11:32 pm to lsutigers1992
they had an article on sportsnola about that... it just keeps in line with the national trend of more college kids being drafted than there were back in the day.
you can't always trust what you see in talent with some of the high school opposition out there. better to go with a more proven commodity

Airline High School in Bossier City put out some talent in the late 80's early 90's. I went to school with 3 guys that were in the 1993 CWS. You might have heard of one of them.
Todd Walker- LSU
David Martin- aTm
Skipper Sharp- OK State

Tanner Rainery from West Alabama, from St Pauls, started his career at SELU.

Maybe Louisiana isn't that deep and talented. That's my point.
LSU doesn't have their pick of Louisiana talent because there's only 11.7 scholarships. So even if every kid left after 3 years, you still could only take 4 basically a year. Kids will go elsewhere whether it's out of state, other instate schools, or the draft.

don't most LA players get TOPS to play at public universities in state?
so the real advantage would be giving out-of-state studs full scholarships bc LA players don't need them...

Pretty sure for baseball, schools split the 11.7 scholarships up. (unlike football- where it is all or none)
"smaller" schools sometimes get good out of state players by offering a higher % (or even full)

Exactly. So you will see some big talent go to smaller schools because they'll offer more. LSU typically wants instate kids to use TOPS. So they really don't have the pick of Louisiana is my point.

When was the last time a big time baseball prospect came out of NE Louisiana?

How does the Lake Charles area always produce so many great baseball players?
Posted on 6/9/15 at 5:10 pm to OU812
Grant Borne a LHP from catholic high who played at Nichols was drafted 7th round to the Nationals.
Posted on 6/9/15 at 5:25 pm to OU812
Because tournament baseball in Lake Charles is very serious and starts at an early age. At this point it's almost tradition for the best players to end up trying to go to the Little League World Series when they turn twelve. Barbe gets all the best players in high school. Sam Houston, Sulphur, St Louis, and Hamilton Christian are consistently competitive with Barbe cast-offs.

Raph Rhymes or do you mean draftee out of high school? Jake Slaughter is the #1 prospect next year at OCS. He's committed to LSU. Shane Reynolds' son is also at OCS and is committed to Texas. Jacob Pearson is the #1 prospect for 2017 and he's at WM. Best hitter I've seen in the area, runs a 6.5 60 as a sophomore. He's committed to Mississippi State, but I don't expect him to ever make it to campus. I can't think of the kid's name at the moment, but West Ouachita's SS is committed to LSU next year. Slade Bolden started CF and hit .412 as a freshman at WM. Listed as the most projectable Freshman by Prep Baseball Report.
Future is bright for NELA.
