It's a lot easier to teach a guy to keep the ball than it is to teach him to pass it

Brewer could hit a 3 in college. Not even close to same handles, vision, or passing ability as Simmons.

Not nearly as good of a rebounder either.

Similarity is size, length and both good in transition.

But to comp the 2 further is ridiculous

Beasley, Carmelo and Durant all played against better competition in much better conferences.

I don't know. For some reason they are also infatuated with Steph Curry.

I'm going to catch hell for this but Simmons is another Corey Brewer. He doesn't always show up big at times but he's the best player usually on the court (NCAA) and when he decides it's time to go he shows up. Simmons just doesn't have a Humphrey type shooter to help as much.

I vehemently disagree with the notion that Gerry McNamara was one of the best college point guards of the last decade

sad thing is that isnt the dumbest thing said in this thread, which is saying a lot.

McNamara isnt even the best Cuse PG in the last decade. He's prob 3rd or 4th after Johnny Flynn. MCW, and Tyler Ennis

Probably because he's the next Kobe and Lebron. #prototype

The guy will come back and say that "one of the best" means top 100 or some shite (insert criteria where McNamara fits) so that there's no way he can be wrong.

Carmelo was named most outstanding player of the tournament and was the first freshman to lead a champ team in scoring average.

In the Final Four - (two games) after hurting his back and being limited in the final - Melo still had 53 points 25 rebounds and 11 assists.

The reason is ESPN has a film crew following Simmons and have since high school. They are doing a Hoop Dreams style thing.

The last person to average Simmons numbers overall was Larry Bird in his fourth year.

He is also on track to be the first player in SEC basketball history to be top 5 in points rebounds and assists in a season. He is also top 5 in steals.

Brewer was a 3 and D guy. Simmons is a point forward. You couldn't have picked more dissimilar playing styles if you had tried.

game I was watching, early in the season, to keep giving updates on his stats.

This was a good answer to a casual viewer questioning, "Why am I watching college basketball in November?"

I check ESPN today to look for some highlights last night and the first video was "Watch every point Ben Simmons scored" from last night's game.

The twitter bar on the right side of ESPN.com is not the list of today's biggest stories.

Brewer averaged 7.1 points per game, 3.4 rebounds per game, and 2.0 assists per game in his freshman season.

By contrast, Simmons is averaging 19.5 points per game, 12.5 rebounds per game, and 5.0 assists per game.

Some people just can't recognize talent when they see it, I guess. Your comparison is way off the mark.

Had no idea who the kid was until they broke into a game I was watching, early in the season, to keep giving updates on his stats. The first update he had like 7 pts. Just went on from there wit cinstant updates. Had no idea who he was, never heard of him. I check ESPN today to look for some highlights last night and the first video was "Watch every point Ben Simmons scored" from last night's game. So why are they pumping this kid up like he's the next Kobe or Lebron? Setting him up for big time failure IMO. I realize, being on the TD board, I'm going to get alot of biased opinions. I'll sift through those to get to honest opinions. Thanks.

So basically you know nothing about basketball. Thats what you are saying?
