With NIL will more young euro basketball players come to the US?

I feel like I am seeing more foreign players sign with colleges, but could just be me looking for it now.

I think the student visas don't allow them to get NIL though. I wonder if they're coming over on a different visa?

This will absolutely be a thing for some and is already happening.
Euro professional leagues are notorious for not playing young players that they believe may go to the NBA

Yes and the fact that previous pro experience doesn’t make them ineligible. Enes Kanter got screwed by that at Kentucky.

I thought this was why guys like Jakucionus at Illinois and Demin at BYU came over. Undoubtedly will keep happening if they’re allowed to get the money

It's to keep people from coming to America on a student visa, but really to get a job. It serves its intended purpose, but NIL/rev sharing makes it a grey area.

I want some Dominican shortstops in the SEC now.

It’s a gray area. They can’t make NIL money in America if they are here on a student visa. They can be paid by companies or sponsors in their home countries and can make passive money from Jersey sales. Can’t film commercials in America tho. This cost Purdue big man Zach Edey big money because he was Canadian.
ESPN- Edey can’t make NIL money

It’s definitely happening.
Illinois and NC State have been two of the most active programs so far.

With the kind of money these NIL donors have, I feel like it's only a matter of time before they set up foreign entities that take care of this

Absolutely. Kentucky signed Andrija Jelavic, a PF from Croatia, to this year's recruiting class.

Could you set up a shell company in their home country to pay them through?

Wisconsin has been extremely active recruiting internationally, as well. Really using Kirk Penney's Australia/NZ and Lance Randall's Europe connections. In 2025, they have Hayden Jones (NZ) and Aleksas Bieliauskas (Lithuania) coming in, as well as Austin Rapp (Portland transfer from Australia).

I assume you could use a shell company to do it. It’s not an NCAA rule tho it’s an issue with US law. Getting caught could get someone in trouble with ICE or even deported these days. Probably wouldn’t happen but donors would most likely think twice about that.
