Sir Steve Redgrave.
Only five people have ever won gold at 5 consecutive olympics, and only two in endurance events, and Redgrave is one of them!

Eric Heiden (speed skating)
The guy won gold in every event in his sport in Lake Placid in 1980--from 500m sprint to 10,000 meter endurance.
I don't think there's a person in the world who could do that these days....except maybe Michael Phelps.

My favorite? Dan Jansen. He just kept coming back after disappointment after disappointment until he finally won the gold. Just an inspiring guy who showed the value of perserverence.
Oh, and Amanda Beard. Because she's hot.

Michael Johnson. I don't think I'll ever be as krunk again as I was watching the 96 olympics.

I do think these are the greatest guys I've ever seen. Watching Johnson race was like watching an alien. I can't believe we're both of the same species he was so damn good.

What Michael Johnson did in Atlanta was unreal, that and Lewis in 84 were the most dominate track performances I've ever seen.
Oh and good choice with Amanda Beard, I'll add Katarina Witt, she made HS dudes watch figure skating.

I was in England for the Atlanta games and let me tell you, Johnson was not some construct of NBC marketing. Everyone was simply flabbergasted by the guy.
That 200 meters he ran was the greatest race I have ever seen. It was unbelievable.

i got to go with Owens myself.

I have to go with Edwin Moses. No one in any sport will ever equal his decades-long dominance of winning 122 consecutive races at the very highest level of competition.
Also, his innovative and purely scientific training methods have carried over to many other sports. Certainly one of the smartest Olympians of all time.
