But, really, could the field be any whiter? In a wide open year, without a dominant frontrunner, and they cram the acting slates full of white people for the 2nd consecutive year, which was the first time since 1997 I think. Benico del Toro couldn't get a nod? Or Idris Elba? Well, thank goodness Will Smith didn't, because Concussion looks just awful. Just throwing it out there. Besides, they managed to nominate the only white people involved in Straight Outta Compton, which is pretty impressive when you think about it.

Elba was good, but not great in Beasts of No Nation. The boy in that movie was fantastic. If anyone deserved a nomination it was him.

Del Toro was good, but not that memorable in his role.

Smith was great in Concussion. Maybe not Oscar great, but he did a really nice job.

Compton just came out too early and was more of an ensemble than a single role driven movie. It should've had a nomination for best picture.

me too.
I was wondering why i just wasted 2 hours of my life watching something so boring and pointless.

It's not very often where i literally have no interest in a movie while watching it. Million Dollar Baby was one, The Monuments Men was another, and Mad Max is one too.
But that's just me.

I noticed this too. It shouldn't take long for the liberal media to start banging the drums of discord.

Seeing it home was probably my issue. I watched it home and I don't have an awesome set up. Also hurts to go into a movie after hearing for months how it is the GOAT action movie.

I liked alright but I will be disappointed if it wins best picture.

Maybe garbage isn't the right word, but it was definitely underwhelming to me. Slow and pretty lame/shallow plot in my opinion. Wouldn't watch again.

Saw Mad Max in IMAX, and like others said, I was in the zone. Glad to see it's up for pretty much everything.

See I thought it an engrossing theater experience, the soundtrack and to the directing mad that movie. I'd love to read the script because I am sure it is pretty meh.

I'd have liked if Compton got a Best Picture nod. It just came out so long ago that it didn't have the push a lot of movies have. Abraham Attah and Jason Mitchell probably could have been nominated. Shame that neither Coogler or F. Gary Gray got love. Best Director is loaded this year, though.

Sicario should be up for best picture over The Martian

Steve Carrel and Del Toro were worthy of supporting actor noms IMO

And just to jump in the Mad Max convo, I'm on the side that thought the hype was bigger than the actual movie. Thought it was a solid movie, but don't get all the GOAT talk. I will admit tho that action movies usually aren't near the top of my favorite genre choices

No. It belongs with the Martian. Both deserve to be up there, no one more than the other. I also though Straight Outta Compton deserved one. Very surprised it didn't.
