re: Anthony Bourdain DEAD 61

Several years ago some buddies and I happened to be in a well known juke joint in the Miss. Delta and Bourdains crew showed up to film a segment centered around the Delta and other locations in Miss. One of my buddies went over to shake Bourdains hand and his entourage blocked him and asked us to “respect his privacy”. The owner of the juke joint was an older black guy that was brought over by Bourdains crew to do the on camera interview for about 3-4 minutes. The owner was this guy nicknamed Po-Monkey and he hung out with us for a long time and smoked cigars, drank beer and was put off with how Bourdain acted so condescending. They were in and out of there within and hour and didn’t seem to enjoy themselves at all.
Another surreal thing about that night was that Jessica Lange was there with a guy and another couple. No interaction between her and Bourdain at all. Not surprised in some ways he committed suicide as he wasn’t a very happy person from the looks of things.

According to google there are 47 million more people now than in '99 here in the states. More people, more suicides.

In a report that examines trends in suicide at the state level from 1999 to 2016, the CDC says suicide rates have increased in nearly every state. In half the states, the agency found the rate rose more than 30 percent.
It's rates

I say it's karma. This idiot said he wanted to poison Trump. Normal people don't get that worked up over political differences.
He had issues.

Suicide sucks for those left behind, even if the person committing the act appears to be a sanctimonious prick.

dafuq?
Response assumed it was intentional and thought the reference was funny.
Poor taste

As I recall, the guy had a fairly young kid (daughter, I think). Feel really bad for her.
Seemed like an interesting guy. Obviously, something was torturing him. Wonder if he fell off the wagon.

It ends for Anthony like a lot of us thought it would . He lived an extremely angry life. He projected a barely- contained cooler- than- thou persona and he had an army of defenders that revered him and seemed to live vicariously through him . People adored him, people loathed him. And obviously, his Leftist politics reflected his self- destructive and angry, destructive nature.
I would say that at least a part of him had to love people. Because he had an easy rapport with people anywhere in the world. And he championed food and better yet, simple Everyman street food . I think he probably also gave a lot of people courage to travel to exotic locales. He was curious, which is about the best thing a human being can be .
As for his demons, yeah . Depression is a bear. Drugs are a bear. He had the persona of a self- abusing tortured soul . Hopefully he is at peace now . RIP Anthony Bourdain.

Reasonable assumption

No one here knew this guy from Adam and will forget about him in 15 minutes.
Seen him in person twice until he went soft and started playing politics.

I don't know if I would say I thought it would but it's not the most shocking news either

Damn, I loved his shows but hated his politics.
I always thought I would love to do his job. Here’s my opportunity.
RIP

What's "too funny" about it?
Liked his shows, hated his politics, but loved to watch his shows.
Sad news.

I am a huge fan of Tony. Read most of his books and watched all of his travel shows, every episode at least 4 times over.
I never cared or agreed with Tony’s politics at all.
I can honestly say because of that he helped me look beyond his political opinions that there is much more in every person. He wasn’t just a good writer he was a great writer. Nobody will come close to doing a travel show that he put on.

You sure busted him. He posted it on an GD public forum. Good job detective.

Don't know the Guy's POV, but hope the Good Lord has the same mercy on Him that I hope for. Never heard Him speak of Faith, and minus that, once you peak, and realize it, it's all hopeless from there. A mere repetition of jaded responses to mundane and burdensome scenarios.
God rest His soul. He definitely had some bright spots in His character. Cheers to the Man.
