When I first watched it I hadnt heard too much about it so it wasnt a let down for me. Definitely a good, humorous movie, but not a classic like many make it to be. Goodman made the movie. One of his best movies, imo.

Pretentious much?

John Goodman made that movie. I didn't like it the first time I saw it, but in college the more I watched it it became hilarious.

I thought "Burn After Reading" was a big, unfunny, unorganized, stinking pile of crap.

Only in the sense that it's not the best Coen Bro's movie.

Incorrect. While not the Coen Brothers' best work, it was pretty funny and spot on with its observations of a CYA CIA.

Very.

All my friends fricking LOVE it. And I like it, but it's nothing special.

Lots of good quotes in it, but just not a great movie overall.

Never said the Coens were obscure. Just don't think the average Joe has seen many of their movies.

I have. But I have different tastes than the people that pushed Transformers to 400 million and Paul Blart to almost 150 million.

Could you sound any more pretentious? Cuz I'm not sure you could. And you're basically using ONLY box office numbers to justify if something is overrated or not. Which is laughable.

But to counter your box office argument, I'll submit Office Space. Loved by pretty much everybody I know, and arguably more quotable than Lebowski. And it only made 10 million at the BO.

Really? So not liking Paul Blart makes me pretentious?

I used box office and I used IMDB rankings. The claim is that the movie is overrated. How else are you supposed to judge if a movie is actually overrated? So we are supposed to determine if it is overrated based just on your opinion with no facts?

It made no money and is ranked #155. I don't see that as being overrated.

As I said before, I think the movie is loved by a vocal minority. That does not make it overrated in my opinion.

If this was your first time watching it, I advise you to watch it again. The Big Lebowski is a film that when you watch it the first time you just think "What the frick did I just watch"? On second viewing it is a much more enjoyable movie and it gets better every time you watch it. That is a sign of a great comedy: one that gets better with repeated viewings.

This.

Wasn't funny on the first view for me either.

Definitely better on repeat viewings. Its a complicated movie, a lot of ins, a lot of outs, a lot of what-have-yous.
