My wife and I saw it yesterday at a 3:45 showing. It was sparsely attended, nothing like Mission Impossible last weekend in the same time slot, so who knows what it does at the box office. I like John David Washington in Ballers, thought he gave a great performance in the movie and there were a lot of funny scenes. Well, I also had 2-16 oz Basement IPAs. Nah, my wife and I really did enjoy it. I have not read the book so don't know the level of adherence to it and found it a tad bit surprising that the KKK was present in Colorado and yes I'm aware racists exist in non-Southern states. The Charleston insertion at the end I could have done without, but overall I thought Spike did a good job keeping the movie mostly humorous and a little crazy, can't say any of it felt like it was dragging, and overall some strong acting performances.

Opening weekend on 1,512 screens it did $10,799,000 for a $7,142 per screen average (2nd highest of the weekend) which is pretty good. It's possible it will add screens in the coming weeks so I'm guessing it tops out somewhere in the $25-$35 million range depending on it's legs. It got an A- Cinemascore so it will likely have good enough word of mouth that shouldn't drop off a cliff.

Saw it tonight, definitely not one of his better movies. But it was a decent view.
He added a ton to the story. He tried to make it into a suspenseful action flick, he almost got there.
Not sure why Nathan Fillion showed up in the background.

The Klan after-party with Duke. They have one shot of a guy with glasses just standing there. I'm 99% sure it was Fillion.

average film at best
the best scenes were probably the phone conversations, which oddly enough were probably the closest to actual facts
but the rest of it was so TOTALLY implausible.
Dating the head the black student union while being the ONLY black pig in town
the scene in the forest, black cop wandering around minute after shooting practice.. jesus the klan isnt THAT stupid to leave the target behind,, those things cost $
the insanely stupid wife and he giddy racism. The character was played as a mildly retarded stooge
the bomb scenario,
the racist cops at the scene
the fat redneck was almost funny, but then subject matter was anything but and it didn't work
the Mexican bomb maker,, REALLY?? this is the klan
and the not so subtle TRUMP isms
was WAY too obvious and so unfactual it hurts the message if there was a sincere intent at a message ( and im not really a trump fan) but the always anti trump types lose the effectiveness of the message due to the over the top rhetoric
this isnt a very good movie but critics will be afraid to say so from fear of being called a bigot

theres this HUGE threat the klan
yet they are incapable duffuses who cant tie their own shoes and just happen to drive by the scene of a crime they sent a stooge to commit at the exact moment the bomb goes off
which is it?

Why not both? It was funny.

Its an interesting TRUE story better than the movie.
I admitted i thought the funniest parts were the parts might be closer to the truth(phone convos)
i thought the movie tried too hard for serious social commentary and broad slapstick comedy and that it missed both

ITT are a bunch of people pissed that we are getting constant reminders of how shitty our ancestors (and fairly recently, mind you) treated black people.
But here's the issue- this is based on history. The plotline is based on real events. It sucks, but it's the truth. The movie doesn't bother me in the slightest as a white man, because I don't identify with the racists in the movie.
I just don't see the issue people have with all of these movies. We are 1 generation removed from the Civil Rights Act, and in many places sundown town laws were abolished as recently as the early 2000s. Of course there are going to be movies about this shite. It's a significant and unfortunate piece of American history. Get the frick over it.

Why can't people get over SJW's? ....because it is still happening!! There's your easy answer. We are not in a post-racist world and neither are we in a post politically correct world. It is simply how things are at the moment, and hopefully both will gradually disappear.

There is never going to be a post-racist world. There are always going to be people who don't like others because they are different.

Agreed. We can only hope to limit their ability to comfortably be bigoted and enact their prejudices in positions of power to an unjust recipient who doesn't share, invite, or define their grievances.

those people would be idiots to think black folks are going to get over it. Especially southern blacks who have grandparents who told them stories of segregation and violence. Imagine hearing about your great uncle who was strung up to a tree without a trial because he flirted with a white woman, or he stole something from the corner store. I don't think I'd be willing to just let that go either.
And this isn't white guilt. I don't feel guilt, because I didn't do any of that shite. I'm simply saying it's understandable that black folks haven't quite gotten over it. And they can make as many movies about it as they want. We shouldn't just turn a blind eye to the bad parts of American history.

Just like we shouldn’t turn a blind eye to the bad parts of what is currently occurring in America.
Yet, on many levels we are encouraged to.

I have family members who that did happen to. St. Bernard wasn't the nicest place for Italians. Though my family let it go because it is wasted energy. I get the reason to not let it go...like all the cuban americans pissed with the baseball trips to Cuba.
