Feel like FedEx probably took pretty good care of him once he was rescued.
No doubt. Too much attention on him. They would take care of him for life (one way or another) whether they legally had to or not.

oh and book and movie rights would be lucrative for him as well
Organizations would pay top dollar for him to give motivational speeches as well.

Never thought about Boeing/Airbus having to settle with him
I don't have a clear recall but wasn't it a storm that brought them down? With the plane on the bottom of the ocean, it would be difficult to prove manufacturer liability.

I thought I remember seeing some type of material had shifted around mid flight and caused an explosion? Maybe not.

He got a huge settlement then bought the Island where he was marooned and lived out his life in peace.

How would Chuck's life insurance pay out play out with his wife in this situation? Genuinely curious. Probably got an enormous settlement from Fed Ex too.

It drove him to the point of attempting suicide, and escaping on a raft with just a couple coconuts. There's no way he'd willingly decide to retire there. I'd want the military to use it as a nuke test site.

What a great great movie. That scene with he and his wife in the rain was perfect. Tom Hanks is a legend
The older I get that scene is hard to watch. I can’t imagine putting myself in that situation. I always wondered if they really never spoke again or if they stayed in touch
I hold out hope that once the kids were out of the house they got back together and retired together. Hopefully, they got together to lay some pipe every once in a while

That's fricked up. The dentist didn't do anything wrong.

She wasn't his wife; she may not have even been the beneficiary on his life insurance policy. Might have been his parents, siblings, nieces/nephews.
Beneficiaries would be on the hook to pay back the proceeds plus interest; the insurance company would most likely settle for a lower amount.

I think a lot of that was because he thought he had a life to go back to. Once he found out his woman had moved on...

I forgot that Helen Hunts character revealed that there was mislabeled hazardous material which I’m assuming was corrosive or something and caused the decompression.
That may absolve the airplane manufacturer, but an act of god (storm) didn’t put him on that island. Chuck is getting paid big.

I don't think there is blame to throw around. FedEx isn't to blame for his years on the island.
Spot on. The plane crash was caused by a storm. The airplane manufacturer, nor FedEx created the storm. You at best could claim pilot error, however he is dead. The only FedEx would owe would be any possible back pay since he was not fired or resigned and/or any insurance policies they may have offered around hazards.
They would probably do a publicity thing and set him up though for life. His money would be made in books/TV/movies/talk shows.

I'm going to read too much into this.
Chuck will be okay.
The question is, what gave him the will to survive? Was it the thought of his woman, or the desire to deliver that last package? Chuck most likely believed it was the thought of his woman that kept him going. On the island, the picture he has of his woman degrades due to exposure.
When he gets home and discovered she has moved on, he accepts she was not his true love and moves on. He delivers that last package to that lady....maybe she will turn out to be his true love, and it was the package after all that really gave him the will to live. The movie is open ended on that point.

I just want to point out how shitty it was for FedEx to have crab and sushi laid out when he got back.
That's like taking your dog for a walk after he runs away and you find him

Chuck probably couldn’t handle real life again and either died from drugs and booze or finished his days in a behavioral health unit.
Chuck died of fluid loss after turning around and finding the chick with the wings.
Was coming to post this almost verbatim.
But honestly, Chuck didn't seem like the litigious type. But I imagine FedEx would have thrown him some nice money if for nothing more than the PR, as some have said. He would also likely make a killing as a public speaker or motivational speaker for the rest of his life.
But in all honesty, I bet Chuck would have wanted to go back to work for FedEx, and more than likely they'd have given him some cush position where he'd never have to fly again. I bet he'd eventually be in line for CEO if he wanted to.
He got his closure from Kelly and could finally put that part of his life behind him (as she had already done as well). So hopefully he at least followed that country chick back to her house and chatted her up for a few minutes.

I would have pursued cowgirl. Everything else would have fallen in line.

I know but it’s just an odd situation and your wife’s dead husband is now alive and well.
She never fell out of love with him. Yes, it sucks but I bet it put a big strain on their marriage moving forward. I know if I were in his spot it would drive me nuts.

I'd imagine they got divorced eventually. And I'm not even sure she and Chuck would have worked out had they gotten back together. There was a lot of life lived during the time he was gone, and things change even if only a little.
even though they both got their closure in the rain, I suspect she was too distracted to be a good wife (or even mother?) from then on.

I wonder if she waited longer than Lori from TWD before banging someone else?
