Maybe he just wanted to work with Robin Williams? But that is interesting. I never knew he directed that. It’s honestly not a bad film, granted it’s been since I was a kid that I’ve seen it.

I saw it tonight. I both loved it and do not understand a lot of it. I don’t think the actors understood it either, but they all gave great performances. Shia was easily my favorite character. PSA: If you have a thing for Aubrey Plaza, a couple of her scenes might be worth the price of admission alone. You’re welcome. Aubrey aside, I recommend giving it a shot if you are even remotely interested in it. Don’t read more reviews or watch more trailers. Go in as blind as you are now. There is a good chance you will find parts of it frustratingly unexplained and many will outright hate it, but I don’t think you will be bored. I’ll save the rest of my thoughts for a spoiler thread if someone else watches it.
Do you feel a theater watch is necessary or can we wait for the digital

I think watching it in theaters would be the best way to watch it. I watched it in digital IMAX. For those that hate theaters because of your fellow audience members, I doubt you will have those issues based on the box office results. Matinee or discount Tuesday is the way to go.

Saw it Friday night. It’s definitely different and there were some really cool creative aspects I enjoyed but the dude put up so much of his own money to basically make an anti Trump film. At least certain aspects were heavily influenced. Wish he could’ve been a bit more original but ends up being more slop. Wasted opportunity.

Friend, I watch every movie that comes to the theater. So far this year I am at 90 films, such is my duty as a critic and AMC A List member. Megalopolis is among the worst five films this year. Yours, TulaneLSU

I saw it this morning, only one in the theater. I love some of his films. I was embarrassed for him watching this one.

So I just saw it today and here are a few thoughts (spoilers):
- The movie was unhinged, disjointed, and self-indulgent. However it was quite the experience and enjoyed seeing FFC swinging for the fences on this one. However, keeping with the baseball metaphor, it was an error-proned game with bewildering decisions made.
- The plot trying to tie architecture to the future flourishing of humanity was probably the boldest part about it, but it kinda lost steam when it got to the end when the political subplot with Shia LeBouf, Audrey Plaza, and Jon Voight took over.
- The film editing was...well...I still don't know what to make of it haha it was all over the place.
- As already mentioned here, but Audrey Plaza in this movie:

Aubrey Plaza was fine but Nathalie Emmanuel was radiant. That's one beautiful woman
There's a lot of random energy in the movie. The Roman versus American empire analogy isn't really cemented so much as casually invoked. When Caesar was slain by friends and conspirators it was allegedly to preserve the Roman Senate and prevent the consolidation of power by Emperor Caesar.
The analogy disintegrated around then. It would have been interesting to see more than just an analogy of the Soviets and Carthage.
The concept of technology changing humanity was also really vaguely explored unless there were themes I missed. Was there a hidden Pompey?
The Cleopatra reference also just didn't go anywhere as interesting as it could. Certainly Cleopatra was a sort of modern woman able to exploit men sexually for power and choosing her own death when she deemed it better than the alternatives.

So what gets subbed in for the hired theater employee that breaks the 4th wall?

Bump
This movie was utterly nuts. It was all over the place. The visuals were beautiful at times and overly cgi at times. The dialogue was amazing in one scene and absolutely terrible in others.
The story was disjointed and at the same time somehow captivating.
This may be one of the best movies I’ve seen and one of the worst movies I’ve seen.
All I can really say about it is that I cannot stop thinking about it.

Yeah. He is one creepy dude. He would be the main schmuck in Dinner with Schmucks II.

You are the Owlfan of movie critics.
And that's not a compliment.

The “back to the club” and the “check out this boner” had me rolling.

I am looking foward into watching it. I hope it isn't ruined by trying to push "The Message".

The problem with his message is multiple characters can be seen as a Trump figure. Some good, some bad.

I tried watching it last night. Would have been better as a hip-hopera, yo.
