the history did not need to be elaborately laid out in the movie,

I judged the movie for itself.

to me detailing that out is like re-telling the origin story of Batman or Superman every time there is a movie that comes out.

It's not even that. It's more like arguing had the MCU started with the Winter Soldier, and we would have been dropped in, in medias res, it would have been as impactful as a movie (because we all know the history roughly). Or hell, Infinity War, for that matter.

frickin millennials.
It was an achievement for it's day. And that it was made for TV was another huge deal.

It did skip alot of the early life, because it assumed that to be known. Similar to SM: Homecoming.

I think you becoming the troll of every board is the real problem here.

Anyway, your 'critiques' are trying to hard to find fault. The story was bad/too fast? You are the first person in 40 years that I've ever heard say that.

The film is a hyper-fantasy version of a story that is over a thousand years old. How much exposition do you need? Also, they weren't going for realism in the costume and design. If they did, no one would have had plate armor, much less the crazy designs you see here. Again, hyper-fantasy.

You're also wrong about the genesis of this type of film. They actually rose out of the fantasy films of the 70's, like Star Wars, Sinbad and hundreds of B movies.

Anyway, Helen MIrren's perfect tits alone are worth the watch.

Holy frick. I thought your idiocy had hit all known limits and now you have posted this trash. You truly are one of, if not, the dumbest person ever. Ever. This movie is a masterpiece. Maybe you should watch "Big Mama". Seems more your speed.

The frick?

Here is a list of my threads on here. Show me the "troll" threads

quote:

Anyway, your 'critiques' are trying to hard to find fault.

I had to watch this movie in like 3 sections to force my way to finish it

I originally rented it (on Kanopy) on the 5th and didn't finish it until yesterday.

quote:

Also, they weren't going for realism in the costume and design

And all I said was it dates it to the period. That's not a criticism.

Why I said this was proto sword and sandals revival that really ramped up the following year.

quote:

You're also wrong about the genesis of this type of film.

Something I didn't even speak about.

I said this was proto sword and sandals, and nothing about sword and sorcery (other than it's design dates it to the period of the genre)

You clearly have never met an actual film snob if you think that OP is pretentious

Oh, well wrong again, then. This is definitely sword and sorcery. Sword and sandal is a term generally used to describe the classic period of Greeks and Romans, and the like, hence the 'sandal'. Even if Excalibur was a sword and sandal movie, movies of that genre have been made consistently since the 20's, and quintessential films such as Spartacus predate Excalibur by two decades. As I said, the 70's were full of movies, of both genres. This one just had a better budget than most.

I don't know what you've been overcompensating for, but it's definitely something.

Boorman or whoever edited it did such a good job with pacing.

Boorman's long time editor John Merritt edited with reported (and uncredited) assistance from Donn Cambern.

Merritt and Boorman had worked together for over 15 years at the time Excalibur was made, and it was Merritt's last official film editing credit.

I again disagree.

I’ve watched it recently and enjoyed it more because I could appreciate the dialogue and performances given by those actors.

You cut off the full quote

quote:

proto sword and sandals revival

The 80s had a revival of sword and sandals movies, starting with Conan the following year (as noted in my OP).

quote:

This is definitely sword and sorcery.

And, as my OP noted, the design in this movie clearly influenced the sword and sandal revival that came shortly after. I never said it was a sword and sandals movie.

From my OP:

quote:

The design was definitely more fantasy than the hyper realism that is the style of today. Again, completely dates the movie to the mid-70s to mid-80s style of these sorts of movies.

While watching, with all the above combined, I realized this movie really was part of the early-80s rebirth of the sword and sandals epics. Conan the next year is typically given the credit, but this movie paved the way.

I literally handed you my list of topics on here to skim through to show wtf you're talking about.

I was also critical of Late Night with the Devil. Feel free to psychoanalyze me based on my critique of that one.

No, I got it. It was not a revival. As I said, they'd been making movies of that genre consistently for decades.
quote:

sword and sandals movies, starting with Conan
Even if true, again, Excalibur is not a sword and sandal movie.
quote:

as my OP noted, the design in this movie clearly influenced the sword and sandal revival
ooh, squirmy.

Sorry, dude. I lived through the 70's and saw me many a sword and sandal as well as sorcery movie. Your opinion is not correct.

I’d love it if we had access to an upvote vs downvote tally per poster bc poor SFP never seems to have an even slightly popular take

SFP makes me hate the Admins/Chicken. He is clearly a full on retard or being driven by the mgmt to drive clicks. Either way its a red flag for the site. He constantly post moronic drivel with no signs of checking or remanding. I guess we all need to make up shite and post it constantly.

Tigerdrippings. The site of moronic, retarded bullshite posts.

Actually sounds kind of accurate.

Other than not being true, there is an army of dumb snowflakes who auto downvote because of political melts. This meme only started around 2019, for obvious reasons.
