Tyrion explained it as banishment basically
Why?

Arya rides off on a white horse after the destruction of King’s Landing in episode 5 but she is back amongst the destruction as episode 6 begins. What was the point of the white horse and her escape?
Dany marches across the lands taking out one leader after another justifying it as her rightful claim to the throne and Grey Worm has no issue with this. Jon takes out Dany and Grey Worm labels him a criminal, for which the only compromise was to send him to the Night’s Watch instead of execution?
Did Drogon provide Uber lifts for the large council to assemble so quick?
The small council meeting . . . I am shocked Hot-Pie didn’t walk in and take a seat as Masterchef to the six kingdoms.
Could have been better, could have been worse.

I’m still wondering why the other kingdoms are cool with the north just being independent but they themselves still being ruled by the king in kings landing whenever the iron islands and drone especially have always been fiercely independent and fought against the rule of others

Because the show runners are fricking idiots. That’s why.

How did they even know Jon killed her?
Yet another important scenario we have to come up with in our own minds because the season was so rushed.
Knowing Jon he walked right up to Greyworm and told him.

If D&D had written this show from the start, it doesn't last 3 seasons.
They have basically no fricking regard for logical story telling. They know where they want to land and couldn't give a rat's frick bout how they got there makes any sense at all. And, they leave a literal BARRAGE of giant holes in their stories.
So, not only don't they use any character arc to explain how they're getting somewhere............they also get there using story devices that make no sense.........IE.....Tyrian knows how to get secretly into the red keep.............tells no one on Dany's team.

Oh, and what's the point of a Night's Watch even if there ARE WW out there? I mean, correct me if my memory is poor, but isn't there a giant fricking hole in the wall now?

Yeah I was under the impression the remaining, what, 1000 or so Nights Watch men went to Winterfell to help fight the White Walkers.
Tollett was there and he was their leader.

First post in since it ended.
Short description is a pretty terrible ending to a great show. Not the first time its ever happened but it just let me down in so many areas. It wouldnt be so bad if one or two characters ended pretty bad, but its like the entire cast had a stupid ending.
I was fine with Arya and Sansa's ending though.

Obvious holes for no reason
1. Night's King, if killed, destroys his whole Army. Has an army that can constantly be replenished. Exposes himself to enemy(if the dude wasn't completely retarded, people shouldn't even know what he looks like)
2. Um, there's a hole in the fricking wall. I think they can go AROUND the night's watch!
3. "Forgot about fleet"
4. There's a secret way out of AND IN TO the red keep. Jaime tries to use the front door instead. AFTER being told about the secret way.
5. I could write dozens of these

The biggest two offenses were Tyrion going straight from prison and not being allowed to speak to 3 seconds later he has selected the new king. That was all time bad.
Second biggest offense was Grey Worm deciding the fate of Jon. I mean who cares if he wants him gone. Grey Worm, really? Whotf cares about what this dude wants.

Easy now. How else were they supposed to set up that EPIC fight between Euron and Jaime?

Maybe I missed it but did Jon leave without a single word with Sam?

Uhhhhh...yes? We’re his consumers and if his series is getting roasted for its ending, I’d imagine it could be changed.
why would he change his story to make people happy? he has two goals: 1) tell HIS story the way he saw it, 2) profit
People will buy the books, and he'll make his money whether you like the way things play out or not. That arrogant frick doesn't care if you like his ending or not, as long as you pay to read it.

Ok, so I just watched how the thing ended. I am not sure what all the melt is about.
Bran the broken is king but not really. GRRM likes the idea that heroes come in all shapes and sizes, I knew Jon Snow would not be the king. Tyrion basically becoming king is what I expected. Bran is worried about the the arcane, Tyrion runs the mundane; Bran is king in name only. The fact he asked about the dragon and then just left the small council meeting was Tyrion's coronation. He is a neutral party so people would not fight, Tyrion as hand is the real king. The small council meetings with Tyrion and Bran will be hilarious, I would love a show just with those... No dynastic succession, elected kings was a nice improvement and expected. Tyrion becoming the lord of castely rock was sweet justice on his horrible father.
John Snow's name foreshadowed what he would become, king of the forever winterland. John was never destined to be on the Iron Throne. I would say the only thing that felt rushed was Daenerys' decent into madness but that was a function of the episodes they had, not poor writing. The way the ended the show was really perfect. The second she threatened Winterfeld as her next conquest, John was going to act. First and for most, Jon Snow is a Stark, Ned Stark's values molded his life, he acted as Ned Stark would have the entire series. The way he did it was pretty good writing in my opinion. It was consistent with his character arch. Most of what happened to him was to please the Unsullied until they left Westros. Once they set sail, I bet that John's exile would have been relaxed. I think Sansa really would allow him to be king of the north if he wanted it, but John would not relax his own exile. Again, another Ned Stark characteristic in his personality. John Snow is an idealistic version of Ned Stark, he has always attempted to uphold the Stark honor.
Sansa's stand to become queen of the north was well done. After what happened to her father, the north would never have submitted to the south again.
Ayra adventuring to the West of Westros could be a series itself. Would be better if she could have gone with the Hound, to bad he did not survive.
All-in-all, given only six episodes to wrap it up, they did do pretty good. I bet when Martin finishes the series, if ever, the descent into madness will make more sense and be paced better.

HBO gave them a blank check for the final 2 seasons. They chose to limit the episodes, not the other way around.

Also - Bran was the evil mastermind this whole time
That’s pretty great
