The Ring - messed with me for awhile
Hereditary - had scenes in it that emotionally disturbed me.

Sinister - good story and acting
Insidious - several jump scares but they worked
Conjuring Universe - some misses but the original conjuring and Annabelle Creation are legit scary.

Paranormal Activity - the first one made me tense and was well done for such a low budget film

Me and my wife both love horror so I know there is a ton I’m forgetting.

"High Tension" -- French film released by Lionsgate in 2003.

There's other very good ones, but this was the first to pop in my head. As another poster said, there's TONS and TONS of horror material since 2000.

a movie i will (lightly) argue is a horror movie that people don't usually lump in with horror is Sicario

also, Pontypool isn't a great movie but has one of the better openings to a horror movie. the set up of a radio station as the exposition (as well as a claustrophobic turn) was epic. now the monsters sucked so the rest of the movie sucked, but that first 20-30 minutes is some of the best horror exposition ever

Wow! The only thing scary about this movie was the story line.

For Me: The descent and The Conjuring were tops

I know this isn’t going to be a popular opinion because it’s not critically received well, but Saw was just gripping for some reason that other modern day horrors weren’t.

I’ll never forget the double Achilles tendon slicing scene in House of Wax though. Holy crap was that maybe the greatest horror moment for me. It hurt watching it.

Probably Train to Busan.

Even though it's Korean you quickly get caught up in the intensity and forget you're reading subtitles. Awesome zombie flick.

Not sure if I'd classify it as full horror, but I really liked The Gift

The original Saw is one of the best horror movies I've ever seen. The sequels being shitty made people forget just how good the original was.
