I agree with the general consensus, don't drag the wedding out all season, give us half a season with the mother in New York.
People need to stop complaining about this and accept it.
The vast majority of this season will be at the wedding, with maybe 1 or 2 episode detours. Thats it. Its over with.
Accept it, and try to enjoy the episodes knowing that.

Does anyone remember how the Slutty Pumpkin story concluded? When Ted walked off last night after revealing his Thank Your Card costume, the Slutty Pumpkin was standing right there. I thought I spotted an Easter egg, but part of me remembers Katie Holmes being the slutty pumpkin or something.
Maybe it was an Easter Egg in that she was right there and Ted never saw her because he was too busy trying to get Marshall to realize he never sent a Thank You card.
Others have already pointed out the slutty pumpkin thing, but there was a continuity issue. The whole slutty pumpkin thing involved Ted dressing up like a hanging chad years after it stopped being funny in hopes that she would recognize him. But he was dressed up as a thank you note that year?

As mentioned, most of the season will be in the same venue so there's no point in trashing that angle.
For being a "filler" episode (not much plot development), I thought this episode was pretty damn funny. The Marshall/Ted gift/card angle was funny, and I busted out laughing at Barney's "Bluffberry muffin. I mean blueberry bluffin. I mean bluffberry muffbluff"

I thought it was solid enough. The forced, faux drama is annoying at times, as well as the completely random plots, but that's a large part of the show, so I'm good with it for the most part.
I do wish we'd get a little more of the mother and some near misses though. I thought it was great that we got to see her getting along with lily so well in the first episode...I'd like to see more than that.

Definitely this. I thought most of the season was going to be their near misses but so far we havne't seen one yet to my knowledge. After the opener I was pumped because I immediatley took a liking to the mother, then we haven't seen her since! I was hoping we'd at least get a little of her in every episode so we can start to form a connection with her.

Katie Holmes was the slutty pumpkin, they start dating and both find out they have no chemistry and end up breaking up after they both realize they are just not into each other.

Wow, that's pretty cool actually.
Anyway...
Obviously they will introduce the Mother more and more as the season goes on.
And, this is informed speculation bordering on spoilers, but, I'm pretty sure there will be one episode soon entirely dedicated to the Mother and their near misses.

Is it possible that the hanging chad was just on the other side? I'm thinking that might be what they were going for.

Better than last week's at the very least. It played to the formula that works, either Ted not scoring or Barney scoring.

It was entertaining all in all. Not really sure why they had the mother meet Lily on the train if she's not going to be involved for a while.

they want to show how everyone else meets her before ted meets her. don't expect to see her again for a while, i'd bet.

Solid episode last night IMO.
Loved the Indiana Jones angle.
Per the previews for next week, it looked like Marshall may finally get there. frick the black chick for texting Lily...that was cold-blooded as frick.
And I agree on the mother. Like I've said, I'd like to see more of her. I know we're not seeing her because this whole season is like two whole days, so each episode is only gonna cover like an hour or two, and so if the mother isn't there that first day, then she won't be there for a while. But still...I wish she was at least there and around, so we could see her interacting with the cast (except for Ted). That would be nice, and I assume they'll get to that eventually, but damn.

I just want to get to know her more, figure out why this one is able to keep Mosby from Mosbying.
