Parks is an overall better run than The Office.

By a significant margin.

Billie Eichner is such a clown.

This thread prompted me to jump in and watch a few episodes.

One thing that I actually love about it is the politics, albeit naive and too bright eyed.

If liberal government busybodies were as altruistic as Leslie Knope, we’d all have a better view of the government. If libertarians stymied dumb stuff but also helped their fellow man as much as Ron, we’d have a better view of libertarians/limited government types.

The irony is that they’re both good people, but you see Leslie use and abuse government power over and over to get what she wants (usually for a good cause but sometimes for selfish reasons) and Ron hates the government and sees it as a great evil but time and time again helps people on his personal time and money despite doing everything he can to make the government malfunction.

It's funny but I hated all three. And the rise of Leslie Knope and gradual emasculation of Ron Swanson. It just wasn't for me.

The Office is the better show

Parks and Rec has better characters

The Office has nobody quite like Ron Swanson or April, who may be two of the best sitcom characters ever.

And Andy Dwyer is basically a handsome Kevin Malone, that got more screentime.

These are characters that are annoying in Parks and Rec:

Ben Wyatt
Tom Haverford

These are characters that I actively hate in Parks and Rec:

Donna
Craig

The Office doesn't have anyone I hate, but they have annoying characters:

Andy
Nellie

I've been rewatching the office superfan episodes and I'm currently in season 3.

The characters and their interactions are more fleshed out.

Superfan episodes are amazing.

You even get more Jim/Dwight pranks, iirc

I watched both all the through during their runs on NBC. For the most part, I've always preferred the Office. There was a period of a few months where I actually like P&R slightly more. But something happened about 8-9 years ago and now I can't stand Tom and Donna. I used to love them and find them hilarious and in many ways they are but I guess now that I'm older and have many more responsibilities, something about their child-like actions just do not make me laugh like they used to. Parks and Rec keeps things lighter and I'm okay with that but it is basically a live action Simpsons.

I do think the second half of season 9 of the Office is just so poorly written. I had no problem with Jim and Pam fighting but that should have happened in season 6 or something and they shouldn't have brought someone like Brian the cameraman into it. But season 8 was very well done IMO and James Spader is fantastic in anything. And the first half of season 9 was pretry funny too. The second half of season 9 gets way too depressing with Angela's breakdown and the marriage issues of Jim and Pam.

NBC had Scrubs, The Office, 30 Rock and Parks and Rec and Community all at the same time

Maybe one of the best rosters of comedies ever.

They are exactly like most government employees.

He was fine early on as part of the merger, had a few funny moments. As a regular I hated him

To the person that said ralphio was a horrible character bite your tongue. His job interview at the accounting firm was classic

NBC catches a lot of shite but they were pretty patient rating wise with all of those, no one would have batted an eye had they pulled the plug early on any of those

It got put on IFC every Monday & Tuesday morning around the time the China virus hit & I started working from home. I’ve probably seen every Parks & Rec episode at least 10 times. I never watched it in its initial run.

It has amazing secondary characters. The legendary Joan Calamezo, Ethel Bevers, & Brandi Maxx to name a few.

A Ron Swanson type character will never again happen in a network sitcom. Enjoy his greatness now.

It's definitely up there.

It's my personal favorite because I have all 5 shows in my top 10-15 sitcoms of all time, with Community my #1 and Parks (formerly #1) in my top #3-5.

My thought has always been, after multiple rewatches of both, is that The Office had much better highs but much lower lows as well.

While Parks and Rec at its best want as good as the Office at its best, it was more consistent.
