Just introduced this to my kids and they all loved it (13, 11, and 7). Pretty much a perfect family movie night.

I watched this again this morning. The first time I watched this was in 1999 or 2000.

Still love it.

I love how Tony Shalhoub finds it all normal. Right after he's teleported, he's like, what's wrong with everybody?

The aliens are great. Enrico Colani from Just Shoot Me is hilarious. Young Rainn Wilson in there. Missi Pyle is in there. Justin Long is in there.

I wish they would have made these a series. Absolutely love it.

don't know what rating it got prior to release but it's pretty tame language wise

ETA: Quick google check showed it was rated PG.

And it’s funny because they “edited out” the F bomb to keep it a more family friendly rating with the hilarious “screw” dub

Funnier if you're familiar with original Star Trek, at all.

I'm not much at all. I remember watching Wrath of Khan way back in the day, but I haven't seen too much. Is it going to be me missing tons of inside jokes then?

It’s got some language and Sigourney’s top is barely existent at the end of the movie.

There are a few sexual innuendos in there. Especially with aliens.

I wouldn’t let a 5 year watch it but a 10 year old sure.

Thanks for the reply. I have a 12 and 8 year old. I didn't think it would be an issue for the 12 year old I was more on the fence with the 8 year old. Maybe I'll watch it with my wife and see what she thinks but it doesn't seem like it would really be inappropriate.

This is why I was curious about the movie. My wife and I do a movie night with our 12 and 8 year old on Friday and this was a movie I missed and I wanted to see if it could be an option for us.

12 and 8 is a mostly appropriate age.

100% worth watching even if it’s just you.

Not a ton, but Commander Taggart is a loose parody of Shatner’s James T Kirk.
