I am glad you guys are saying such great things about Mister B. Gone. I am currently on page 104 (245 pages), and I am loving it. It is extremely sardonic. And the poor demon is so out of place! I can't wait to finish it...

Necroscope by Brian Lumley
One of the most underrated horror novelists.
A blend of Edgar Allen Poe, Stephen King, and Ian Flemming.

bargain Halloween section
where is this?
Just walk into a B and N or any other book store and look for the tables set up with Halloween signs. Many of the books have been marked down.

I love horror movies, I love the genre in general, but a lot of horror books are extremely hit or miss for me. Many have just been so bad that I often can't finish it (go read the last couple of chapters and put it down).
Maybe I'll have to check out some on this list, but after my Koontz/King obsession in the late 90's, and my Poe/Barker/Lovecraft readings in the early 2000's, I haven't read a horror book since.

Try something by Richard Laymon, preferably The Island, The Traveling Vampire Show, or Blood Games. He's got some very intersting/different books out there that a lot of people don't know about.

I just read a Laymon book a couple weeks ago (The Cellar), because I had heard good things.
I wasn't impressed. Sure it was fast paced, but everything felt rushed and there was no character development. He seemed to be going more for shock value than anything else. I wasn't impressed with the writing either.
I can't recommend this guy.
BTW, I also tried Brian Keene's "The Rising" but I kind of felt the same way... although I did enjoy this one better.

Imajica is awesome!!! Barker's Damnation Game is his best.

I haven't read imajica or sacrament since middle school. I think I should go pick them up again. As I said earlier, I loved damnation game. I liked the Faust/paradise lost elements. I'm going to have to buy hellraiser this year. Amc didn't show it during monster marathon last year and I was disappointed.

THE O by G. Crowton is absolutely and gut-wrenchingly TERRIFYING.
It sets you up to have certain expectations, and then BOOM it goes in a completely unexpected direction.
It takes you places you NEVER wanted to go.
It's been known to make grown men sob.

I agree...that crap needs to stay on the rant, where it belongs!!!
By the way, I just finished Clive Barker's Mr. B. Gone
It was a fun read. Its concept was original, and the plot was worthwhile. It was a bit shakey in a couple places; nonetheless, I recommend it to anybody wanting a spooky, fun, horror book to pass a couple days in October.

Dan Simmons "Children of the Night." It's a vampire book.
Outside of the Exorcist, it's the best horror book I've ever read.
