Vaughn was a little man caught in a big situation.

Vaugn was between a rock and a hard place. All the townspeople are yelling and screaming at him to keep the beaches open for their livelihoods. The only people advising him to close the beaches were Brody and Hooper. Vs the whole town. And remember, Brody was relatively new to town, and Hooper was a complete outsider.

I've always liked it, mainly because the shark is featured a lot more.

The most hilarious thing to me is that he was begging people to swim in the water as though that made him extra money by people actually going for a swim. The beaches were always packed. People were there chilling and having a good time.

I watch just to see the old Holidome.

There's a deleted scene where Mayor Vaughn takes up for Brody when the city council is discussing firing him. I think it would have been a good move to have kept it in the film. I think it helps show that Vaughn (although misguided in the original) had some loyalty to him and was not necessarily a bad man.
Vaughn was the only one who voted to keep Brody as chief. They absolutely should have left that scene in.

I was 5 and a half when Jaws 2 came out, and while I had not seen the movie, I guess I was exposed by commercials. I can remember taking a family trip to PCB and being scared to even swim in the swimming pool. There was an goofy golf and I can remember they had a shark video game - you were reminded of sharks everywhere. A couple of my older siblings were around the ages of those teens in Jaws and probably had seen the movie and did what they could to help terrify me as well.

one of the biggest (?!) problems with Jaws 3 is that they made the shark preposterously large
Completely agree. That huge reveal of it through that underwater window was ridiculous due to how so unrealistically and absurdly large it was. But a lot of that was due to it being in 3D. I’ll always have a soft spot in my heart for this movie too, because I remember my dad taking me to see it in the theater and it was my 1st 3D experience. (I think). Young Denis Quade and his hot dolphin trainer girlfriend. (Can’t remember her name, but don’t think she aged well. Not unattractive as she got older, just not hot like she was in that movie).
And like some on here have mentioned, Jaws is my favorite movie of all time. But I did really like Jaws 2 as well. I agree that its flaws were not having any other adult characters like Hooper or Quint, but I still liked it. And I also agree that it seemed to have been on much more than Jaws. It must have been a Spielberg/production company/distributed decision where they tried to keep the mystique of it by not showing it too much. Seems like maybe it was as 1-time a year event like The wizard of Oz was, maybe they just showed it on the 4th of July or something. Jaws 2 seemed to be on all the time like the original is now.
Jaws 4 is a so bad it’s good movie. Just utterly absurd. But saved by Michael Cain clearly phoning it in for cash and the great Mario Van Peebles doing the best work he’s capable of. For cash.

The reason most of you saw Jaw 2 more than Jaws growing up.

You go on the boat, boat goes in the water, you're in the water, electricity's in the water, shark's in the water, our shark.
Farewell and adieu, to you fair Spanish ladies.

I believe it was Bess Armstrong. Later Claire Danes mom in My So-Called Life.

The first Jaws movie I ever watched was actually the 4th one
Somehow after seeing it I still wanted to watch the rest of them.
The original is a masterpiece that’s almost on par with The Godfather.
2 is good enough. I have actually never watched the entire 3rd movie.

I never understood how shark movies are scary.
It's not that hard to understand.
Water isn't our natural habitat.
Tons of people enjoy going in the water.
Sharks are the apex predator in the water and we're basically helpless if they want a piece.
And sharks are real and actually kill people yearly, not some boogeyman.
It's why Jaws is the scariest movie of all time IMO. The amount of paranoia that movie creates for almost anyone who's seen it isn't rivaled by any other movie. Maybe Psycho and showers back in the day, but Jaws is still prevalent.

Always think of Jaws 2 if I see a little helicopter.
Good sequel.
Good sequel.

So many of the Jaws sequels are guilty pleasures of mine, so it's good to see others enjoy them as well. I always thought they were more B list movies but honestly they are incredibly enjoyable for a casual viewing.

This. To an illogical level. I would be in the middle of a fresh water lake water skiing waiting on the boat to pull me up and could sometimes hear the Jaws music in my head.

It’s a fantastic horror movie. I love it as well.
But the original is my favorite movie of all time.
