Why did Phoenix do this after he found out how they were going to do it?

Apparently it was his idea to make it a musical off of a dream he had, and $20 million dollars

Todd Phillips didn't like the type of people who liked the first movie.

This movie was designed to "stick it" to those people.

And he felt that was a solid financial decision.

Change my mind

Is it a bad sign when there are no leaked streams?

Art the clown is the new Freddy Kreuger. A slasher who brutally kills teens yet is also funny.
He's really popular right now expect to see as many Arts as Beetlejuices in a few weeks.

Anyone actually seen this?
Saw it last night. I somehow missed all the reviews and went in blind. I HATE musicals so that was a fun surprise. Considered walking out a few times but powered through, which is good, because the implication made in the ending (literally the last minute of the film) was the only interesting moment of the whole thing.

It's also a tough movie for an ex-smoker. The half of the movie that isn't devoted to boring musical numbers that do nothing to advance the plot is a montage of close-ups of every character savoring long satisfying pulls of sweet sweet nicotine. I was sweating bullets and had chewed half a pack of gum by 30 minutes in.

Woke up with my jaw literally sore from nicorette and figuratively sore from Tod Phillips shoving his dick down my throat for two hours.

Has any sequel tried to undo the legacy of its predecessor more than this?

In someone’s bizarre fever dream the first movie was supposed to trigger incels? Whatever the hell that word is supposed to mean, it didn’t work. The media even tried to hype up absurd connections to the Colorado shooting back when the 2012 Batman movie opened up. Problem is, that incident had exactly nothing to do with the movie.

Supposedly, the daddy Wayne character was a reference towards Trump or Trumpism, whatever. And the violent mobs? Literally the 99% or later, the antifa type crowd. Only the audience didn’t see it that way. The first time he was generally seen as a slap at the authoritarian establishment, which the left now controlled. And lord have mercy , they can’t have the people rising up against the government.

I was excited about this even with it being a musical.

Then I read reviews and that led me to read some spoilers.

Then I was out.

At one point I was actually entertaining the idea that Phillips was trying to do some meta artsy "Joker as a filmmaker" shite (some men just like to watch the franchise burn), but I don't think he was that clever. He just seems to either badly misunderstand what makes the Joker such a cultural icon or has outright disdain for fans of the character.

The Joker represents the id of the average decent person at his worst moments.

When your boss shits on you. When someone cuts you off and gives you the finger as they do it. When some trashy frick leaves their cart at Walmart and it rolls into your car. He's the guy you wish you were, ever-so-briefly, for that split-second in time.

He doesn't get played by horse-faced musical bitches. He plays them. He's the final boss of anti-heros.

Hell, at least Tony Soprano loved his kids.

He's despicable, he's criminal, he's violent, he's psychotic. But above all, he gets shite done. He makes people pay.

He's not a pathetic simp.

There's never been a movie that called less for a sequel than the original movie. It was a good movie but it wasn't always enjoyable and I guarantee a sizable portion of the comic book movie crowd felt burned when they left the theater.

The basic math there says that even if the sequel were just as interesting as the first movie, it was never going to do nearly as well financially. If the sequel was a bad movie, you had the recipe for a box office disaster.

It's hard to believe the studio execs are this bad at their jobs.

Todd Phillips did a Sam Raimi/Spider man 3 thing on this. Didn’t care and the studio just threw to much pressure at him so he gave the exact opposite

Nothing about its marketing was going to pull in anyone new. The people who wanted to see it mostly went the first weekend because they were excited for it, and the data shows that.

Joker 2 is in ~500-600 more theaters than Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, yet made less money.

Once again, Batman beats the Joker.
