Couple of things I noticed……the population of New Orleans took a break from killing and raping each other during Katrina. Which is cool.
They were hunting black folks like animals in Algiers. Algiers is 75% black.

Weird how the city and state governments get a pass in all of these documentaries

Has anyone watched the Netflix doc? Ep 3 seems like it was a completely different doc, very odd how they did it

Yes, those 75" plasma TVs with no power, cable, or internet around for weeks were needed for survival. It's in every basic survival kit. They now do OLED as it becomes more mainstream in those kits. Those Ipod mini's and shuffles were needed too. Something to do with the radioactive electromagnetic frequency emits high beam quantum ultra-fission gamma rays that deters water out of lungs in the case of drowning. Despite no power to charge them.

The 3rd episode was god awful.
Posted on 8/29/25 at 3:28 pm to SmoothBox
It was like they just took a bunch of unused footage and pieced it together to make the 3rd episode
Also, the people complaining about outside teachers trying to teach their kids but didn’t understand the culture so they couldn’t…idiots. fricking idiots

so a friend from my Hyatt days sent me a clip of Graylon Banks being interviewed…he was the black guy who said he was director of security at the Hyatt at the time. Which is true but that’s the only thing he said that was true.
I’m not going to watch the documentary but for those who have, just know that he’s full of shite
We did not intentionally fill the hotel to make money in fact we tried everything we could to get people to leave. We were the housing of last resort for both entergy and NOPD so we had to stay open but we couldn’t get the rest of the house empty as there was nowhere to send them. And we wound up saving lives
So frick him

First two episodes of the Netflix documentary were okay
The third episode should just be called "hate whitey"
In typical Spike Lee fashion, he gives you the front 66% of his 3 part series as a doc
Puts you in a decent mood to finish his 3part series
Then shoves full blown racist propaganda down your throat in episode 3
Makes you want to look at the leadership of Nola, a leadership that hasn't had a republican mayor for 150 yrs.

In the Netflix doc, as soon as LaToya made an appearance I was like "here comes the BS". I watched a few min more and stopped. The first episode was decent.

Having an entire city full of useless people who expect someone else to provide everything for them is a recipe for disaster, Katrina revealed the reality of how fragile "civilization" is when uncivilized people determine how things go down.

Last 3 episodes were absolutely terrible

The thing that bothers me with Katrina is everyone ignores that some positives came out of it. We had to take my kid to University Med, and it is waaaay nicer than the old Charity. It also taught the state how to properly prepare for the worst case scenario.

Watched it today because I was bored. Although the whole situation was sad.... the documentary was worse. I had no idea that the flooding was in the 9th Ward and NO East. Chalmette flooded, St. Bernard flooded.... but it's interesting that only one group was focused on.

Pretty much this. What actually happened to the Orleans Parish school systems, though? I can’t imagine that they really just fired everybody, but I don't remember reading anything about what actually happened.
Regardless, it’s obviously rich YT people’s fault

I wonder if they showed all the volunteers with boats going out to save everyone and many nola "residents" pulling knifes on them and trying to steal everything off the boat and what not.
It was Spike Lee so nah.

The first two episodes were interesting while the last three were about how white people didn’t want to rescue black people, how white people were indiscriminately shooting black people, and how black people were innocent, strong, hard working, church goers. Oh, and there’s climate change sprinkled in as well.
About how I figured it would be. I'm not supporting that fricking garbage.
