anyone have a total running time for this episode? my frustration w/ this ep. was more from the insane amount of commercials last night. I'd guess it was less than or right at 40 min.

Ring of ash around the temple. They showed MIB/Locke right it's edge last night.
Was it really the ring of ash that keeps MIB out or was it Dogan's presence? Lennon made it sound like it was only Dogan that kept MIB out.

This. The ring of ash was never broken, was it?

My thoughts on last night:
Bye bye Dogen, it was nice knowing you. It was odd to see him go so quickly and violently when we knew so little about him. Sayid appears to have finally accepted his own darkness and he's good at it. For me Im a little sad about that as I always wanted to believe that he truly has more good in him than not. He apparantley does not.
Im not sure what to think about in terms of those "infected". Is this just a term used by the others to described someone that has taken up the cause of MIB? Someone that has the propensity to be drawn to the evil inside all of us?
Personally I thought the ending was a little cheesy. Watching the bloom of black smoke whisk through the temple seemed anti-climatic to what I had bulit up. The interaction between Ben and Sayid was awesome.. cant wait till next week where Ben will be the focus. Watching Illana, Miles and the pilot run through the temple looking for the exit reminded me of an episode Scooby Doo. Overall though I enjoyed the episode and thought some questions were answered.

They just showed Locke towing the line. Maybe there is some connection with Dogan and the ash.

From this episode, we get a hint that MIB knows about the alternate timeline (just a hint, not confirmation). Anyone else think perhaps he used the lighthouse for this purpose? If so, he no longer has vision of the alternate time. Perhaps what Jack saw was the alternate timeline when he looked into the mirrors. If he had waited a few minutes before smashing the mirrors, he may have seen himself walking in or out of his mom's house.
False.
Watching the replay with bubbles showed differently. It showed that Jack saw the palace that Jin and Sun were married at and the church where Sawyer's parents' funeral was held. So, Jack saw the locations of where Jacob touched someone.
So, following this logic, Jack should have seen the hospital where Jacob touched him. But, he saw his parents' house that he said he hadn't seen since he was a kid.
Because of this, I think that "Shepard-23" refers to Christian.

Im trying to think if theres any way that could tie in with Llana taking Jacob's ashes from the statue
Don't know how it would though....

Everyone is assuming that Dogen is dead... I wouldn't be so sure. Remember just a couple episodes ago, Sayid was drowned in that same water and came to life 2 hours later. The hippie dude is dead bc Sayid slit his throat but Dogen was drowned. I thought the fact that he killed the 2nd guy in a different way was a hint to that. Then again thats just a thought I had.

Dogan def died, if not what was keeping MIB out? Whether he comes back remains to be seen.

obviously. dies and comes back or doesn't die at all, no difference

Likewise. I think Dogen will come back to life infected with the Darkness from the dark water in the pool. Basically, MIB is trying to take control of all Jacob's pieces (candidates) or remove them from the board entirely. muhahahaha

Interesting point, especially since Miles made a point to say that he was dead for 2 hours before coming back. When we watched the episode it seemed to be a much shorter period of time.
ETA: Which would give MIB a window to wreak havoc on the temple.

I think Jacob's ashes will come into play in a later episode possibly used in some rites exchange ritual when and if Jack takes over Jacob's role as protector of the island.

Am I stretching to think that possibly Sayid was instructed to "drown" him in the pool. Why not just slash him much akin to the other guy. Not to mention that earlier Dogen had bested him one on one, so why take the risk of drowning him unless it was for a reason.

Which is probably why he never offered Sawyer that since he is likely not with Juliet in the alternate timeline. Also like Locke, Sawyer sees that his life before the Island was a joke, to where returning to his old life or something similar to that is not an enticing offer to Sawyer
I think so. We don't know how Sawyer's life in the alternate timeline will be portrayed but we know what it was like before the island as a con-man, not pretty. This is why I think jumping on the MIB bandwagon saying "hell yea" he wants to get off the island seems suspect; again what does Sawyer really have to look forward to off the island. I tend agree with what others here have said that Sawyer is just playing along with Flocke to see where it leads.

Agree. Flocke wants a dark Dogen on his side of the board. :)
