How did this really contribute to the show? As perfect as this series is, I’m still hung up on this element.

Was it to show Hank’s household weaknesses leading to his blindness toward Walt?

That Hank/Marie weren’t perfect which not having kids lead to anyways.

Also, once Walt/Skyler’s antics were known, neither used this as a defense mechanism for just ‘making a judgement mistake’. Would’ve been the perfect time to bring it up at the Mexican restaurant and video.

Just seems like an unusual storyline to add to an already great one. That never had a conclusion.

Terrible storyline, that's why they gave up on it

it was to show that every character on the show was flawed. Kinda like Six Feet Under.

Well their flaw was no children. Mostly why Marie was overbearing on Walt and Skyler’s kids. As retarded as they were.

Hank's flaw was that he was a pretend tough guy that had panic attacks when the going got rough.

Marie's flaw was that she was a cleptomaniac and tried to control situations.

Marie and Hank had better parental instincts than Walt & Skyler.

Pretend tough guy?

Dude won a gun fight with a pistol vs an assault rifle

Killed 2 guys while initially unarmed and suspended from work

Was the lone survivor of a cartel bombing

And only got killed because his brother in law was being a pussy and called for a backup team of like 12 guys all armed that ambushed them

I got into breaking bad about a season or 2 before it ended. Caught up and saw the last season or so live.

I will never understand how on average the fans favored a Walt over Hank.

I also think Skyler was overall a more favorable character over Walt also but I get people hating her.

Hank?

That dude is the man. Instead of a crown that dude is getting greeted at the pearly gates with some high value minerals.

Didn’t he have panic attacks from being gravely wounded, nearly killed?

They made Walt look more sympathetic by having everyone in his family be complete trash you hated.

I think they wanted a storyline for Marie, and it did foreshadow straight laced Hank having to come to terms with a loved one being a criminal. It was a bit out of place, though. I can't see Walt/Skyler or Hank/Marie thinking petty theft would be comparable to Walt's high crimes, so it wasn't odd that it was not brought up at the Mexican restarant.

I honestly disliked her more than Skyler. I wanted her to die a painful death in the show. I just hated her character.

Did they ever come to terms with her always wearing purple and it being part of Easter eggs? I remember it was the internet rage for a lil while, but always wondered if someone figured out the purple and linked it to something big.

Yeah, the guy is way off. Hank's flaws were that he was a little overconfident (which led to blind spots like Gus and Walt) and, then after he was shot, he was not a good recovery patient. I would hope that understandable trauma would not constitute a character flaw (although I suppose it could serve as a Greek tragic flaw for dramatic purposes ).

Tuco was already shot

He was warned about them, backed into one with his car, and only survived because they were crazy catholic cult members who wanted to chop his head off with an ax.

Was only out of the blast radius because he was having a panic attack

He got killed because he couldn't stand that Walt did all this under his nose. Popeye O'Doyle wave and all that. He wanted to be the hero. He says this so many times, Jesus. Walt called Jack to stop...Jesse...not Hank. Walt tried to stop it, but no way they let Hank leave. It was just bad luck that Hank was really pulling the strings, and in his brashness, got killed. The most badass thing Hank did in this whole damn show, was Look Jack in the eyes and told him to go frick himself. Hank died badass. That's about it.

In the end, Hank was a well trained cop, but his bravado was only a facade of the scared little boy that couldn't cash the checks he was writing. He was extremely flawed, in so so many ways. Every character in this show was complex. That's why no one got away clean. Everyone had to take a bite of the shite burger.

Hank had panic attacks because he was in way over his head when he was sent to El Paso. It had nothing to do with him being shot. He knew he was going to the big leagues and he wasn't ready. That was blatantly obvious to anyone watching the show. It did more to hurt him than any bullet could. It's why he doesn't go back and Gomey gets the job. He was depressed after being wounded, but he had zero panic attacks. He actually handled almost being paralyzed and killed way better than having to go back to El Paso.

Each rewatch I do, Hank becomes more and more the most likeable character on the show.

I interpreted it to be the show giving her a vibe like it did with other characters via colors, lighting, or style. Except Marie's never changed, while others like Walt and Skylar did.

Could be off. I don't know if Vince ever commented on it.

I've watched the series numerous times, and I every single time I cannot help but think Hank was a moron for not bringing that evidence into the DEA as soon as he confronted Walt in the garage. Going vigilante killed him and his partner.

Fatal mistake.
