Never realized Madsen was Bump Bailey in The Natural. I remember seeing him on TV before movies. Kill Me Again in 1989 was what would become a typical role for him. The Tom Baker role in The Doors was kind of an odd one for him. It wasn't really big, but that was a huge movie. We got to see some of his trademark volatility in Thelma and Louise. Reservoir Dogs made him what he is. Donnie Brasco gave him the opportunity to be the head badarse. Kill Bill II is my favorite Madsen. He's more or less a has been that probably never was. He's a low life, little brother character, that's as mean as a snake. It hurt me when he had to do the scene where Rocket told him about the stopped up toilet.
Trejo may not really be a bad man, but I ain't testing him. Really got a lot of exposure in 1995 from Desperado and Heat. After those two movies, if you needed a bad arse Mexican, hell a bad arse in general, he was your guy. From Dusk Till Dawn, Con Air, and The Replacement Killers were all big movies for him in a short time. Three fourths of his movies I've never heard of, much less seen, but I'm sure they're all action packed.

His Sister would have been a perfect fit for a truck stop hooker.

Michael Madsen was 6'5" and Danny Trejo is 5'6". Danny better have a weapon.

Anyone else like either one of these guys? Do you think they should just go away?
I was about to say whelp, one of them already has, but just saw it's the most random 7 year old bump ever.
Either way, Madsen >> Trejo.

Madsen all the way.
I read he turned down the Vincent Vega role in Pulp Fiction. John Travolta sure is happy for that.

Inferno (alternatively known as Desert Heat) With Jean-Claude Van Damme.
It’s mostly bad but funny cool bad.

Spending time in prison for nearly 20 years for assault, attempted murder, & drug dealing, I'd say he's got a bad bone or 2.

a bad arse Mexican
Great comeback story though. Runaway Train his first acting role & a good movie.

I realize this is an old thread. But a) I like both but Madsen is by far the better actor than Trejo, and b) how does this math work:
Was he winning shite he wasn't even nominated for?

Madsen - 8 Wins, 5 Nominations

And its not even close. Madsen was very underrated. He was a great actor.

Not seeing them as being in quite the same category. MM was more versatile but damn, Danny hits it so hard.
Really like both.

Don't forget about Madsen in "Free Willy"
love his sister too...
She was great in The Hot Spot......if you haven't seen that movie I highly recommend. Also, includes a perfect young Jennifer Connelly.

"That woman deserves her revenge...
And we deserve to die."
One of my favorite lines ever.
But... Trejo for me. How this brutal-looking criminal became a beloved Hollywood icon... A true redemption story (watch his documentary), he turned his life around and dedicated himself to helping others. Like some other larger-than-life icons (cough keanu reeves cough), he's not a great actor, but that's not why you like to see him in movies.

Madden just seems like the laziest actor ever. I like him but he just lacks energy.
This is my take too. He basically played all his roles in the same "Look at me, I'm so cool" style and never really delved into expanding his emotional level in them.

DT turned his life around & does his thing. Madsen has acting chops.

Damn! ... I didn't even know Michael Madsen passed away until just now while looking at his IMDb page.
Rest in Peace
They are, were both decent actors. I can't say that I liked one better than the other. They both made some fun, entertaining movies.

I think owning donut shops and cantinas puts DT slightly ahead.
