For those of you who don't know what this show was, it chronicled the life of the Lady Jane Grey after the death of her husband, King Henry VIII of England. In the show Henry VIII's son, King Edward VI, was portrayed as gay, disabled, and....well....I have photos:

Eh the only reason this is getting a thread here or even talked about on any website is because of that. It's like a Bat-signal for lazy show.

My theory is that nobody inside these productions ever has the courage to push back against any DEI related suggestions.

My history of the Tudor period may be a bit rusty, but Lady Jane Grey was not one of Henry’s wives.

I watched an episode. It's comedy, includes fantastical magic and shape-shifting, an English political landscape centered around that magic, and it chronicles the life of a character that takes place after the real life counterpart had been executed. And this is explicitly stated by a 4th-wall-breaking narrator at the start of the first episode.

Not exactly trying to rewrite history...

Calling this character king Henry viii's wife is more misinformation than is delivered in at least the first hour of this show.

These type of shows spit in the face of history while showing some alternate realities for the sake of peoples feelings. Some work, and some don’t. Netflix figured it out and evidently gave people what they want, not so much for Amazon. Amazon has several great originals, but they also throw money away on other originals that aren’t very good just because they can.

You should've waited til after 20 pages of outrage to bring this up.

I found the show offensive to our actual lizard people leaders by depicting the king as a shape-shifting horse.

Watched 3 or 4 episodes then forgot about it really. Wasn’t terrible, just another in a long line of mediocre series from mediocre writers. Seems to be the growing trend these days.

Does it have anything to do with this? Otherwise, I haven't seen it on my TriggerFeed.

Well that feels weird and disconnecting.

Like I get rewriting English history if magic was introduced and having it be comedical in nature, but why shuffle historical figures around? Does it get mentioned why they decided this route with the narrator?

The productions are intended to debase our culture and history

Alternate history is a pretty popular genre in writing and has been for a long time. There are plenty of books set in worlds where the nazis won ww2, Russia won the cold war, and even things like if Abe Lincoln was a vampire hunter.

No I get that. But I'm more referring to shuffling historical figures. It would be one thing if it was just "hey what would happen if Abraham Lincoln and George Washington were alive today?" Vs "hey image if MLK was married to Harriet Tubman". Like yeah maybe that would be interesting to see, but feels kinda odd. If that was a show I could seriously see people getting confused and thinking they lived at the same time in reality.

Can you even call a show like this “alternate history”?
