Oh wow. You are correct. Someone told me wrong and I never double checked it. My bad. She sounds great as Hermione. Hopefully facial features and stuff will be there as well

I’m still shocked they race swapped Snape and not Hermione. While I don’t agree Hermione’s book description could realistically be black. Snape, on the other hand, is the whitest character in the books.
The only reason I can think of race swapping him is because of how great Alan Rickman’s portrayal was and HBO didn’t want the comparison.

Everything about it looks good except for the Snape thing. Rowling has specifically wanted this series "because" she has never loved some of the films and how much was cut from the books. She wants substantially more faithful adaptations. Which makes the Snape thing all the more puzzling given the power she has over this production.
Its such an unforced error that makes James Potter so much worse in so many ways, and Harry's hatred for Snape seem worse.

Yep. They could have hired the same actor for the same show in a different role, even expanded from the books, but no. They HAD to show their own racism by swapping Snape. Real Potter fans and a bunch of normies aren't going to play this game. It'll fail like queer Who did.

I’ve read some troubling rumors about Voldemort’s casting too. Tilda Swinton and Cynthia Erivo are who pops up on Google’s AI deal as rumored castings when you search it. If either one happens I’m gonna have a tough time watching it. I like the books too much to enjoy watching Tom Riddle get gender swapped.

I think there is a good chance. If they were doing some spin-off from the material like they did with Tolkien then would say no way. But they are sticking with the books and I think Rowling is closely involved so they can’t mess with things too much. I’ve listened to the new Audio books with the cast and they sound great.

There is a problem with the death eaters as well. You got old Voldie chumming up to the rich and powerful bad guys. They don't have any issue making fun of people for being blood traitors and mudbloods, but they draw the line at racism, they got their black friend Snape. This is a SNL skit waiting if they had the balls to do it where Voldy won't be lumped in with racists.
I'm hoping for it to be good, they are gonna need to make a marauder or two diverse as well, probably Sirius to make it look not so bad.

If they are worried about representation there are plenty of other characters they could’ve race-swapped without really getting too far from the books
They did the same thing with the Dark Tower movie but removed enough that people wouldnt get the context.
For those that dont know, Idris Elba (a very good actor) was cast as the main character Roland. In the books, there was a very significant racial conflict perteint to the story with another black character so him being black made little sense.

Race swap or not, fans were going to be upset with whoever was cast as Snape because Rickman was so damn good.
Adam Driver was just a wet dream because he looks like young Snape but there is no way he would sign on to do this. Just look at his resume, he's into serious roles.
