, I was convinced a third installment was going to happen that would involve JFK assassination "stuff."

Gates's second cousin twice removed was going to be framed for the JFK assassination and the Gates family could be cleared only with the information on Page 47.

I'd love a 3rd movie surrounding Jean Lafitte, Andrew Jackson, and King George III with New Orleans and the Gulf coast as the setting. There's so much mystery surrounding Lafitte and his lost treasure, and there is even Masonic ties.
One can only dream about what the series could have been.

There's always some sort of petroleum in those underground places for convenient lighting and torches that never go out. Not to mention, on a slope.

like to think that the ending to The Rock was a prequel to National Treasure.
And The Rock is a stealth sequel to James Bond.

A 007/Rock/National Treasure shared universe is a cinematic shared universe I can get behind.

It's so formulaic that I think a series would get old quick, but it works in movies every 5 years

And the 300 year old wooden torches are still rock solid.
