re: Rewatching Game of Thrones has confirmed my original thoughts.

Yeah, visually it was amazing. I get the complaints about it being too dark, but if you watch it in a dark room then its not an issue at all.
Even in a dark room it’s hard to make out what’s happening on screen

ETA: I always assumed that the reason for the dark filming was to for budget reasons. The brighter the scene, the more detail would have to be paid to CGI, sets, effects, extras in the background, choreography for a large scale battle, etc to make sure everything still looked good. Darkness lets you scale down on a lot of that while still giving the impression of a huge battle. Camera tricks and whatnot.
They had a blank check from HBO and certainly more budget than they had for much better and brightly lit battle scenes early on in the show.
They couldn’t take the time to find the actors coffee cups in the shots of the last two seasons, so I guess shrouding all the action in darkness to hide the imperfections is easier than idk just actually filming something good

Battle scenes in early seasons didn't have to account for the CGI budget for dragons
And for battle scenes in seasons 6 and 7, you're comparing scenes that were only a few minutes long to an 80 minute episode that was mostly large scale battle scenes with lots of dragon screen time.

I guess, but it wasn't that many episodes before where they did the Lanister/Drogon battle. It was really well done and it looked great. I loved this shot in particular:

I mean you viewed her as evil the whole time and that's fine. But that is not how the show portrayed her and the show runners straight up say that is not how they were portraying her.
I agree with this sentiment. For much of the show, viewers saw her in a good light. Why do I know this? Because there were articles about a bunch of fans being asked if they had regretted naming their daughters Daenerys or Khaleesi after her character torched KL after Cersei surrendered.

Also I think the whole TV series more than the book is a long sermon on how the Red God is the real god. All of the god of lights prosecutes come true and all of the people he brings back from the dead serve a purpose towards killing the night king.
At least in the show, wasn't Melisandre completely wrong about Stannis, openly admitted she was wrong, and even showed regret about sacrificing his daughter in the name of the Red God only to see their army obliterated?

I did a full rewatch recently. Honestly, knowing that it was going to end so poorly made me appreciate the first 5 seasons that much more, and made me just enjoy the ride for the final 3 seasons.
I want to start the books, but I won’t start something that enthralling until I know there’s at least going to be an ending.

I watched it and saw everything just fine, and for the record it wasn't on an expensive TV. Just a cheapo Sceptre 55" 4K, getting HDMI feed from my Yamaha Dolby 7.1 4K receiver. That cheap TV had a nice picture, crappy sound and wasn't "smart", but that's fine- I don't care about internal speakers or apps. It's going to be used solely as a display, the AV receiver handles the rest.
Maybe that's it, I believe I set it to simple neutral visual, and the receiver puts the best settings in.

Yea that definitely wasn't what they were going for. There wasn't a one true God, that was kind of the point, even Melisandre came to that conclusion. She was basically just over it by the end. The old gods and the new were more traditional so you didn't see miraculous things happen but you even had the many face gods like those in Bravos/faceless man believed in that clearly had some form of power.

Yes having Dany turn bad was shite
Dany going bad/mad is about the only thing in the last season that made any sense.

I didn't have a problem with her actually going mad. It's in her DNA after all. My issue was that how they did it was hilariously stupid and almost completely out of left field. They could have built up to it at least a little bit.

The execution of it definitely sucked.
Were audiences really supposed to be upset about Missandei getting killed off? Her and gray worm were a waste of screen time.

I think maybe they missed her assets more than her character.

Put me in the camp that Missendei had top 3 "assets" in all of Game of Thrones.
It wasn't even really that that did it for her. Jon not being ok with keeping their relationship going was really the biggest factor. In my head I'm like Jon wtf dude, Targaryens hooked up with each other since the beginning of time, get over it and rule with her. You don't want the power so you let Dany rule and you get a smoking hot wife that you clearly like. But nope, all because he doesn't want to bang his aunt, everything burns and he has to kill her. Jons partly to blame imo.
