I wasn't so much replying to you as to the thread in general. I think there's a legit argument for Gable as Rhett Butler.

Although I disagree with your pick of Stallone. I associate Stallone with Rambo more than Rocky. And I love Rocky, and am not saying only Stallone could play Rambo.

Scott as Patton was a great performance, and one of my favorite war movies. But I still don't think it fits.

And as much as I loved Batman, Heath Ledger played the role just as well, if not better.

Arnold as The Terminator. Not a great performance, but clearly he was born for that role.

Fair enough. I thought about putting Rambo but decided Rambo could be played by someone else moreso than Rocky, and I think Rocky is his biggest role.

Jimmy Stewart as Jefferson Smith. Some, less familiar with Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, might say Stewart as George Baily.

Patrick Swayze as Bodhi.

Matthew McConaughey as Wooderson

Burt Reynolds as Bandit.

ETA:

Eddie Murphy as Axel Foley.

I was going to mention Matrix, but perhaps Hugo Weaving or Lawrence Fishburne. Neo could have been anyone but maybe that's why I see your point with Keanu

As we all know, Will Smith was up for the role, and I think that would have been terrible in hindsight

Eta: The black guy in Blood Diamond and the Indian kid from Slumdog

I don't think anyone else could have pulled off Capote like Phillip Seymour Hoffman, but he was probably born to play Dusty from "Twister"

Great one.

Morgan Freeman - Shawshank

Wrong. He was always meant to play God, which he has.

this and gandolfini as tony soprano are probably the top 2 where you can really say someone was born to play a specific role and nobody else could pull it off.
