Saw it last night and it was worth the hype. I bought the soundtrack. I dig the Paper Planes song

Finally got to see this one.

My thoughts:

Fell victim to be being over-hyped in my own personal world.

It had the City of God quality, set in an impoverished country, and basically tells the story of one's upbringing.

But Slumdog wasn't remotely as good as City of God, not even close.

overall 8 out of 10 though, very solid

Didn't know what to expect from this movie and it held up the hype. Badass movie I loved every aspect of it and was not expecting it to be this good. I loved how all the questions had a meaning in his life growing up. I suprised he didn't know the name of the 3 musketeer because he had to guess.
Best picture worthy

Was it really as depressing and brutal to watch as many people have said it was? I heard they did some terrible things to the begger children in the film, but I have no had time to go out and see it for myself.

Forrest Gump Pt II

that's freaking hilarious--i actually looked up this thread to comment on how i thought SLUMDOG was Forrest Gump Goes to India! Good movie but the "being there" theme was a bit campy. no real profound themes developed unless you count the desperation of poverty and undying devotion. oh, and love of money is bad.

i can't say there was anything more worthy of best picture, but its hands-down selection betrays a dearth of good filmaking.

I saw Slumdog last night. It was a very good movie, but I haven't seen a lot of the Academy Award nominated films yet. I'm probably going to watch Milk over the weekend, and then I'll probably check out The Wrestler, Benjamin Button, and Doubt in the next few weeks.

Slumdog was definitely engaging, but it was a little too much like Forrest Gump for me as well. The kid actors were excellent, and it's a shame that they still continue to live destitute lives in India, even after the success of the film.

Although they weren't as mainstream as Slumdog, I also thought that both Born Into Brothels and City of God were more interesting than Slumdog.

PS-Yeah I agree the girl in it is beautiful, not so great an actress, but she is gorgeous.

well slumdog was her first acting experience, she was a model.

I read that her ancestors may have Portuguese blood, hence the last name. She says shes 100 percent Indian.

there are actually a lot of people in india who have western names, from the missionaries and all who came to convert. she's from an area in india where many people have portuguese names.

Just watched it, lived up to the hype, did it deserve best pic? Keeping in mind that mediocre pics like Chicago, Shakespeare in Love and Titanic have won, it was a hell of a lot better then any of those.

Slumdog was very well written, well directed and the cast were at least competent. This film could have easily lost itself in just one of story elements.

I watched it last night and really enjoyed it. One question though. At the end when Salim gets into the bath tub full of cash when the gangsters are trying to kill him, was that supposed to stand for " I was born poor, so I'm going to die with money"?

It's supposed to symbolize and contrast how they lives. Salim was all about the money, and it's what drove him, so he ended up dying because of it (not really but go with me here) and Jamal only wanted love, and he got that and money.

watched it last night, thought it was decent. A little far fetched, but overall a good "feel-good" story.

Well, I thought The Wrestler was better than Slumdog, and I don't even consider The Wrestler to be one of the best movies I've ever seen. Slumdog did absolutely nothing for me. I wouldn't even put it in my Top 100.

if you swapped movie titles, i would agree with this statement
