Wizard and Glass is my all time favorite King Book.

Fantastic.

SK books read very easily and I usually avoid gigantic books. Just saying.

But I'd read Salem's Lot

The Stand was my first King read. Finished it in March. I'm about to start the Dark Tower series now with The Gunslinger.

Suggest you go to any library & look over all his books, read what they are about inside the cover, and then choose. Most decent libraries have all or most of his books. But you really are missing out by not reading The Stand. His earlier books are more pure horrot...Carrie, Cojo...but the more he wrote, the more he got into psychological horror.

I figured this was a good place to ask about books, rather than the OT.
wise decision.

OT:

Misery
The Green Mile
Cujo
Carrie
Christine
Pet Semetary

As far as page limits go, with King, he reads pretty fast. Don't deprive yourself of reading some of his best books just because they're a little long. The Stand, It, Desperation, all above your page limit, or close to it. But they are my favorites.

Also check out all of this short story collections: Short Stories

Best starting point, I would stay away from Misery, hated the love book stuff. Dead Zone is also a good early read from King's library.

Short story under the pseudonym Richard Bachman -
The Long Walk.
Not long at all, but more than just a short story.
My favorite.

Well you're basically saying, "I want to read, but it better not take me too long." Doesn't sound like you'll enjoy it if that's your mindset, having a countdown until you're finished with it.

Wut.

I thoroughly enjoyed 11/22/63. It's on the long side, but it's an engrossing thrill ride of a story. It's not a horror story either, but it's still distinctly King in the way that it's written. It's basically about a guy that discovers a time machine and travels back to try to stop the Kennedy assassination in the hope that it would prevent a lot of other tragedies (like Vietnam) from following it.

I thought thew premise was great, but I've always thought King's writing style is pretty sophomoric, considering the depth and complexity of the subject matters he delves into.I can't give an example but I always feel like I'm reading a story written by an extremely imaginative high school student who has great ideas and fills in the space between those with tired tropes and hackneyed dialogue.

The Body
Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption
The Long Walk
Rage (out of print since Columbine, I think)

I think those are the only ones I read, but I enjoyed them. Especially The Body and The Long Walk.

ETA: Also read The Running Man. Pretty decent as well. I used to read wayyyyy more than I do now. That makes me sad.

I already made my point, but comparing watching a movie to reading books is apples to oranges, considering you usually watch a movie in one sitting, and you don't have to worry about the time it'll take you/page limit with books because you're reading it in a lot of different sittings. So that comparison doesn't really apply

I've read most of what he's done. I quit on the dark tower series, not my thing.

I'd start with the short story collections and make sure you hit the bachman books. The Stand, It, Pet Semetary, all the classics are worth a read. Enjoy.
