When Iris finally agreed to have a real conversation with her mom, she basically told her mom that she did some investigating into her (because she is an ace investigative reporter apparently), and discovered that her mom had a son that she was hiding from Joe.

Wait she knew all along her mom was alive or she looked into her after Joe told her. Also who is Wally West? I am not a comic book guy.

I took it as she started investigating her as soon as Joe told her about her mom, or at least after Joe told her that her mom said she was dying.

I was wondering why we were being forced to endure this ridiculously boring deadbeat mom storyline. Looks like it was a set-up for Wally, so that we don't have him just popping in out of nowhere.
He was originally Iris' nephew, I guess with this Iris being so young and her family history being more concrete than the comic version, her having a nephew didn't make much sense.
