Very excited to see with little expectations they do it justice. It's one of my favorite books. I really like the design of Bertilak. This is one of those changes from poem to film that adds to it and works.

Sir Gawain didn’t exist. Camelot (a city of silver and gold) didn’t exist. King Arthur didn’t exist. The story has a knight with green skin.
But by all means, focus on the race of the very good actor playing the lead character.
This is probably the dumbest take I have seen on these boards. Anansi never existed either, but I guess it's ok to cast him with a white actress?

You'd think the bombing of black Ann Boleyn would have taught them something, but it's not about results. It's about propaganda.
Regardless of your greater point, this filmed before the Anne boleyn show, and it was supposed to be released over a year ago.
But I'm pretty sure British mainstream television and American indie cinema aren't really sharing notes. This is an American movie made by an American studio with an American director. There is also a Canadian studio involved.

But Patel isn't playing him, so it's irrelevant.
It’s not irrelevant just because you look like a dumbass. You clearly stated that the Green Knight was not green, but just had green armor. You probably didn’t get far enough in the Wikipedia summary to realize Gawain wasn’t the Green Knight before your outrage blinded you.

If he just so happened to be Indian, it wouldn't matter, but there's nothing random about him being the choice.
Please outline the scenario in which he would “just so happened to be Indian” in a way that would not make you melt about his casting? Because Dev Patel is one of the rising actors to come out in the last couple of years so it’s not like they grabbed some scrub off the street
This board loves the false platitude of saying “if he just happened to be the best guy then I’m okay with it but this is clearly diversity casting” when they are the ones that automatically assume they were cast soley for diversity reasons and not because of their acting ability.

And Gawain is always white, because that's the only historical possibility.

Do the versions where they change his skin color trigger you too?

No. Those were female characters written by talented people for the purpose of art and entertainment. Race/gender swapping and/or insertion into a place they weren't already isn't about art or entertainment. If you haven't figured that out, I don't suppose you are likely to.

Dev Patel is Indian.
This is medieval England.
It’s diversity casting.

I'm not all riled up about it, but I'm pretty sure the Anglo Saxons and Britons who created the mythology crafted the character as an Anglo Saxon or Briton, not Indian
*ETA: possibly Welsh
People who do get riled up and get in their feels about this, I've discovered, are typically pretty miserable about any movie that has any type of diverse casting that goes against the grain. In fact, they're pretty miserable people in general.
I can't wait for the threads on black Superman

Also, excited for this movie. Love medieval lore and all that goes with it. Don’t really care if an Indian is playing an English knight or anything. A little annoying but whatever, movie looks cool and the source material is good.
