All those white dudes in 300 wasn't greek either. Not only that Dothraki was actually white but they shot in Morraco so they get the extra they can get. It is what it is.

This is one of the biggest myths about the film industry right now. If you actually read through the Academy's bylaws on this, it is virtually impossible to become ineligible for the Oscars. You literally have to go out of your way. There was only one black actor in Nolan's last film (Oppenheimer) and he was portraying an actual historical person (J. Ernest Wilkins Jr.). The character appears in but one scene in that whole three-hour epi

It went into effect for the 2024 Oscars, which Oppenheimer won. It’s just a boogeyman.

I guess there will only be one or two Greek or Trojan soldiers on screen at any one time?

I just hope the rumors aren’t true that the story is from Telemachus, Penelope, and the suitors point of view. Because that would mean the majority of the script is not adapted from one of the greatest stories ever written

Our society is so miserable and negative that when something breaks or we see a sneak peak everyone rushes to say how awful and bad it looks.

There are very accurate reports of Africans fighting in the Trojan war so seeing a black person makes sense.
quote:

African figures, most notably the legendary Ethiopian King Memnon, fought in the Trojan War, bringing armies to aid the Trojans, and were described as powerful, dark-skinned warriors who rivaled Achilles himself before being slain by him in epic combat, symbolizing prominent African participation in the mythical conflict

History bothers some here when it conflicts with their shallow world view.

Eh sort of.

We say awful/bad something looks because Hollywood is mostly terrible the past few decades, and doesnt seem to care what the average consumer wants.

I don’t think people understand just how interconnected the Mediterranean world was thought to be during the late bronze age. Ancient Egypt had conquered Nubia. Egypt and Greece were well known to each other and traded consistently with each other. Nubian mercenaries were very common in the period.

And Christopher Nolan has been the complete opposite over the past few decades.

He said it poorly but I think he means credible historical records. There were a lot of different cultures interacting throughout the Mediterranean, modern Turkey, the Middle East, and north Africa.

Any skepticism is understandable FWIW. If you watch a Netflix or Hulu show and see African representation in St. Petersburg the unintentional result is a loss of perceived credibility when it comes to diversity on camera.

Damon is probably also a questionable Ulysses. He's just a known name

Maybe reports aren't the right word as it's mostly legend. But i mentioned the Africans historically tied to the Trojan war. We know there was a city called Troy. We know they warred with Greek city states. But most of the stores of the Trojan war are legend more so than fact.

But Africans were in Greece at that time. Tourism was already a thing at that point in time. Resorts already existed in some places.
