If True Detective is a overall success, I have a feeling Woody could be the Jessica Lange of True detective especially since he is committed to the two Mockingjay movies and they are local. It would be also something so different than those as well.

as I believe the show is more about the characters and how the investigation affected them rather than the case itself
the first 2 episodes would lead me to believe this. however, knowing that each season will feature a new cast and a new mystery, i think the murder/investigation is the main theme(and will become more prevalent in upcoming episodes), and not just a tool to tell the story of the relationship between the 2 detectives.

I did not know this
but it makes sense how they got 2 big name actors to sign on

i think the season is only 8 episodes long, so the writers might just be getting all the character development out of the way early.

Not that uncommon anymore, Salmon.

Maybe its Woody's wife? Perhaps thats the reason the two had a falling out in '02?

pizzolatto definitely wants to lead people down that road. i think it's a red herring
Him dropping the line about the smallest detail breaking the case was brilliant on his part. By him saying that, we now read into every little detail and watch the episodes 3 and 4 times and get online and discuss theories endlessly.
I think there are red herrings all over the place because he wants people speculating and talking about his show.

Is it just me but I get the feeling we are gonna get to ep 7 or so and then look back at that scene with Martys girls and doll reenactment and are gonna be mind blown. It just felt creepy. The scene didn't match what they were saying.. He lingered kinda long... I have a bad feeling for those two girls

I think his daughters are going to get kidnapped.

I don't get the vibe that his children will be kidnapped. I do expect a twist during the '12 that will make for a creepy experiences [Judging by the gifs I've seen of unaired episodes]

yeah, i think when he said about the story about "the girls in the woods" he meant his daughters and the reason his wife leaves him is because of this. His buffer between work life and home collide ala Seinfeld world's theory.

If you want to say he's a copycat down the road, I'll say maybe. The original killer, nah. Unless he's completely disassociating, he's too reflective originally.
Unless they did catch the original perp..... But in doing so, Rust ran across something, some "secret truth of the universe" that made him go crazy..... Perhaps he finds a copy of "The King in Yellow" and reads it, thus going insane.
Maybe he wasn't the original killer but is not a convert and worshiper of The King in Yellow.
I doubt it, but that would be in keeping with the original tone of the works.

Not to be a dick but lets try to keep any speculation based on these gifs out here.

I don't. not enough emotion in his voice. he was very matter of fact. no way he would be that calm talking about his girls being kidnapped.

I flipped out when I realized they were alluding to Lovecraft, Chambers, etc. with the references to the King.
I can't wait to see where this goes.
