I can’t think of the last time we had a good comedy come out like a Wedding Crashers, Superbad, The Hangover, etc

What has happened to funny comedies? They have disappeared and it sucks

Weird: The Al Yankovic movie from 2022 was really funny.

I'm still wanting to see that one, but haven't found it on streaming yet.

Snack Shack just came out and it's solid. Also The Wrong Missy (2020 movie with David Spade and Lauren Lapkus) is pretty hilarious.

I think it's free on the Roku channel and I'm pretty sure you don't need a Roku to access the Roku channel.

Probably not the most recent, but definitely flew under the radar. Don’t let the age of the cast fool you. The jokes are mature and hilarious.

As others have mentioned, I enjoyed game night and booksmart. I'll also add popstar: never stop never stopping. But it is a dying genre, unfortunately.

I was going to go with The Hangover but the 21 Jumpstreet movies were hilarious and more recent.

There was one on Netflix last year about a lesbian cheerleader fight club that my friends told me was pretty good.

I miss those absurd, over-the-top comedies that seemed to die out when we got oversaturated with them (most bad) after the success of the Scary Movie franchise and Not Another Teen Movie. I think those spawning the gazillion other parody movies practically killed the genre:

Date Movie (2006) (And I like Alyson Hannigan but she could not save this shitfest)
Epic Movie (2007)
Meet the Spartans (2008)
Disaster Movie (2008)
Superhero Movie (2008)
Spanish Movie (2009)
Dance Flick (2009)
Vampires Suck (2010)
The Starving Games (2013)
Best Night Ever (2013)
Superfast! (2015)

The classic parody movies that led into these also dried up (your Spaceballs, Robin Hood: Men In Tights, and Airplane! for example).

It also didn't help that a lot of those could originally be made on a shoestring budget and make back way more (Not Another Teen Movie made back 4 times its budget; the original Scary Movie made back a whopping 15 times its budget).

Looking at the recent list of "Parody" movies and it's clear it counts as a lost art these days:

Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga (2020)
Borat Subsequent Moviefilm (2020)[22]
Secret Magic Control Agency (2021)
America: The Motion Picture (2021)
The Lost City (2022)
The Mean One (2022)
Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank (2022)
DC League of Super-Pets (2022)
Weird: The Al Yankovic Story (2022)
Strays (2023)
Barbie (2023)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem (2023)
Unfrosted (2024)
Not Another Church Movie (2024)

Studios don’t want to make a movie that won’t make less than a billion dollars. Lot of genre movies have been completely squeezed from the budget.

This eras version of Superbad costs 150 mil and has the main characters in CGI costumes with Disney audience approved jokes

There have been some good ones come out but they are few and far between. Game night and Palm Springs are relatively recent ones that are great.
