Excellent list as comedy on TV did not exist before 1987

Some guys from before, that were incredible:

Richard Sanders (Les Nessman WKRP)
Richard Mulligan (Burt Campbell Soap)
Robin Williams (Mork from Mork and Mindy)
John Ratzenburger (Cliff Clavin, Cheers)
Christopher Lloyd (Reverend Jim, Taxi)

All of those shows were great, and you could pick and choose from the cast on each (except for Mork). But anytime any of these guys hit the stage, they always had me rolling

I don't think he did much TV, though.

I tried to stay with actual scripted sitcoms with my list. It's not quite fair to take folks from the Carol Burnett show, guys like Tim Conway and Harvey Corman. They were insanely hilarious, but didn't have to weave things into a long-running coherent story like some folks did.
Archie Bunker, Fred Sanford, George Jefferson, Jimmy Walker (JJ from Good Times) were ALMOST as consistently funny, but had long tales to build in.

Nobody ever heard of Richard Sanders before or after WKRP; but Les Nessman was one of the greatest comedic inventions I've ever seen on TV. He plays it so straight and deadpan, I don't think I've ever seen that character laugh.
