The National - Slow Show
LINK
LINK
quote:
Standing at the punch table, swallowing punch Can't pay attention to the sound of anyone A little more stupid, a little more scared Every minute, more unprepared I made a mistake in my life today Everything I love gets lost in the drawers I want to start over, I want to be winning Way out of sync from the beginning
I wanna hurry home to you Put on a slow, dumb show for you and crack you up So you can put a blue ribbon on my brain God, I'm very, very frightened, I'll overdo it
Looking for somewhere to stand and stay I leaned on the wall and the wall leaned away Can I get a minute of not being nervous And not thinking of my dick? My leg is sparkles, my leg is pins I better get my shite together, better gather my shite in You could drive a car through my head in five minutes From one side of it to the other
I wanna hurry home to you Put on a slow, dumb show for you and crack you up So you can put a blue ribbon on my brain God, I'm very, very frightened, I'll overdo it
You know I dreamed about you
For twenty-nine years before I saw you
You know I dreamed about you
I missed you for, for twenty-nine years
You know I dreamed about you
For twenty-nine years before I saw you
You know I dreamed about you
I missed you for, for twenty-nine years

Greatest Love of All
Whitney Houston
I believe the children are our are future
Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride to make it easier
Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be
Everybody searching for a hero
People need someone to look up to
I never found anyone who fulfill my needs
A lonely place to be
And so I learned to depend on me
I decided long ago
Never to walk in anyone's shadows
If I fail, if I succeed
At least I'll live as I believe
No matter what they take from me
They can't take away my dignity
Because the greatest
Love of all is happening to me
I found the greatest
Love of all inside of me
The greatest love of all
Is easy to achieve
Learning to love yourself
It is the greatest love of all
I believe the children are our future
Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride to make it easier
Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be
I decided long ago
Never to walk in anyone's shadows
If I fail, if I succeed
At least I'll live as I believe

Because the greatest
Love of all is happening to me

Love of all inside of me
The greatest love of all
Is easy to achieve
Learning to love yourself
It is the greatest love of all
And if, by chance, that special place
That you've been dreaming of
Leads you to a lonely place
Find your strength in love

The Cure - Pictures of You
There was nothing in the world
That I ever wanted more
Than to feel you deep in my heart
There was nothing in the world
That I ever wanted more
Than to never feel the breaking apart
All my pictures of you.
There was nothing in the world
That I ever wanted more
Than to feel you deep in my heart
There was nothing in the world
That I ever wanted more
Than to never feel the breaking apart
All my pictures of you.

Mutemath- You Are Mine
Everyone has their obsession
Consuming thoughts, consuming time
They hold high their prized possession
That defines the meaning of their lives
[Chorus 2]
You are mine[x16]
[Verse]
There are objects of affection
That can mesmerize the soul
There is always one addiction
That just can not be controlled
[Chorus 2]

Everyone has their obsession
Consuming thoughts, consuming time
They hold high their prized possession

I use to watch them all the time, when I was a kid. I didn't remember that song though.

Weird. Was literally just reading something on Instagram about Led Zeppelin’s most underappreciated songs and couldn’t believe The Rain Song wasn’t listed. Probably my favorite song of theirs. Rick Rubin puts it best "I don't even know what kind of music this is ["The Rain Song"]. It defies classification. There's such tasteful, beautiful detail in the guitar, and a triumphant feel when the drums come in — it's sad and moody and strong, all at the same time. I could listen to this song all day. That would be a good day."

Don't know about best but have to give an honorable mention to "Downstream" by Supertramp. Hard to get much deeper than the line "...you are the reason I was born"!

Yeah this is a bit surprising. It's my favorite song of theirs, and I expected it to get more appreciation than it does.

This about sums it up, especially the guitar. It's a perfect song.

No one's posted Hallelujah yet. Jeff Buckley might be the most famous cover, but so many people have done it.
Al Green's Love and Happiness is a personal favorite of mine.

Ten Years Gone is a classic as well.
While we are on topic of under appreciated Led Zeppelin songs, I’ll present In The Light. Trippy beginning but it’s a Zeppelin classic and one of Page’s favorites.

And if you feel that you can't go on. And your will's sinkin' low Just believe and you can't go wrong. In the light you will find the road. You will find the road Oh, did you ever believe that I could leave you, standing out in the cold I know how it feels 'cause I have slipped through to the very depths of my soul. Baby, I just want to show you what a clear view it is from every bend in the road. Now listen to me Oh, whoa-whoa, as I was and really would be for you, too, honey As you would for me, oh, I would share your load. Let me share your load. Ooh, let me share, share your load And if you feel that you can't go on In the light you will find the road Though the winds of change may blow around you, but that will always be so When love is pain it can devour you, if you are never alone I would share your load. I would share your load Baby, let me, oh, let me In the light Everybody needs the light. In the light, in the light, in the light Light, light, light, in the light Light, light, light, in the light, ooh, yeah Light, light, light, in the light

Top 5 Zep song for me. That intro is brilliant!
What's funny about modern rock vs classic is how enthusiastically classic rock bands embraced religion and God. Zepplin in particular praised God in much of their work. At some point it became cool to not, and rockers took the opposite approach.

Taking that path, how about this one!
quote:
It's the heart afraid of breaking,
that never learns to dance
It's the dream afraid of waking,
that never takes the chance
It's the one who won't be taken,
who cannot seem to give [or heal]
And the soul afraid of dying,
that never learns to live
