$185 a piece for Foreigner at golden nugget in Lake Charles and my kid is singing backup vocals to “I wanna know what love is”. These guys are 70 years old!

Metallica tix were $2k for 4 good seats. You are good lol.
Agreed though its bad. I paid $10 for tix on the KillemAll tour in the early 80's so yes things have changed a bit. Taylor Swift tix are outrageous as well.

Pearl Jam has priced me out.

I shopped for their Dallas show. Face value prices were outrageous. Of course second party had their mark up.

Last show I went to was Eric Clapton in Houston during Covid. I guess 2021. Masks were suggested but not mandatory. I think we paid $130 a piece?

It's been that way for quite a while. In the mid-90's, $75 seemed outrageous but people, including myself, paid that price for sell out venues. I guess they feel fans of a given band will pay the price.

Remember when Pearl Jam sued Ticketmaster because they wanted to keep tickets under $30? Nowadays club shows are $30 and arena and theater shows are closer to $100. Then you have the megastar acts that can charge whatever they want.

It’s crap when big acts that claim they love their fans then milk them for every penny they can. (Taylor Swift)

Robert Smith thru Ticketmaster made his tickets non transferable. Ticket were sold at face value only. So that scalpers can’t jack up the prices. However Ticketmaster added enormous fees.
It’s Shite!!

Yes. That’s what’s annoying. The only people that kept out were fans. I got into their non Ticketmaster Austin show. Somebody got through the phone line and bought whatever the max number was. Didn’t have enough people so we went.

Now. Can’t get through their website or the seller because of bots then the tickets are scalped. Even face value has gone up to what scalped prices used to be.

Anyone remember this place? Pasadena, TX.

Texas Tapes N' Records

1980's

We would camp out there and buy tickets. You could get eight tickets max for less than $150.

If you were close enough to the front of the line, you would get seats in the first ten rows. Any and all bands.

You could also meet the bands the day of the show.

Good times!!!

Her tickets ranged from under $100 to $250, I believe. It’s the resellers that price them at $500+.

What’s even more bullshite is the preregistration/lottery for tickets. My daughter wanted to go see Olivia Rodrigo and I never could even get in to look at ticket prices because I didn’t have a code. Of course the tickets on StubHub were $300-400 each.

I paid $150 to go see Billy Joel in 2019 and that’s pretty much my upper limit. I love a concert, but not enough to skip a mortgage payment to see someone live.

Yep.

That's why I've been going to a lot more local shows. $50 for two, maybe three bands. One cheap concert t-shirt and free parking.

In her defense, those insane prices people were posting online were from 3rd party scalpers or stubhub. I snagged tickets during the presale and only paid $99ea.
She also attempted to do the verified fans only presale and bots were still able to overwhelm the system and snag all the tickets

Nope I think this is exactly what she wanted. To big the biggest grossing tour ever with no regards to the fans.
She knew all her options. She knew that what she did regarding bots wasn’t going to help. That was all for show.

She could have made her tickets to be sold at face value only. But then her concert wouldn’t be what it is right now with super high ticket prices. And she loves to be talked about for any reason.

I can't remember the name of the record store in the mall I used to go to for tickets in the 80s. I don't think I ever paid more than $15 dollars for a show. Also used to go wait in line at the venue box office in Syracuse. Always got decent seats. I've been looking at a few shows lately but I can't justify $150 or more for bands I've probably already seen a few times. All the venues up here in the NY/NJ metro area are expensive. After taking the train into the city, grabbing something to eat, buying a t-shirt if I want one, and maybe having a beer or two, going to a show easily ends up close to $300 for just me. It's hard to justify that nowadays, particularly when shows aren't as enjoyable with today's phone-obsessed crowds.

Thank God for you-tube. Back in the day, Late 70s and early 80s I saw a bunch of pretty big shows that were on average $20 to $25. Sucks to be my age but I made some great memories along the way without filing for bankruptcy.

Found an old ticket stub from a Grateful Dead show back in the day.

Face value $26.50
