Country was the white mans blues. People don't struggle anymore like they once did and have deemed authentic Americana as a spectator genre more belonging in some museum. They can't relate to it so this pop hybrid has replaced it

I disagree. The product just isn't out there to purchase. The bar is being kept very low intentionally.
It seems to me,that there is a huge cultural cut-off,because he guy that writes and plays real country music,is less likely to use technology to his advantage for marketing and publicity. He just wants to pick his guitar up and play, and it makes him hard to find.
In a business that needs to keep air time filled up,you need a mediocre product, and keep expectations low.
White guys still have the blues, maybe more than ever, and there are still great writers, singers, and pickers out there playing.
The thing is,you can't play something new and great at your radio station, and then follow it up with pop crap. The difference would become glaring. Not good for business.

It's not on FM radio but sturgill, chris Stapleton and isbell have been absolutely crushing it when it comes to record sales and iTunes downloads so I don't really follow what you're talking about.

Sturgill had the #1 country record for a while last year when his record came out.
So to say that there isn't a product to sell just makes me think you aren't paying attention to what's actually happening in the music business.

I like all of those guys, but I don't consider them to be real country music,it's a hybrid, but the fact that they don't get airplay emphasizes my point about keeping the bar low.
A pedal steel and fiddle don't make a song country. It's been so long since a real country song has been played, people don't even remember what it is(was) anymore.
I guess you are right about me not paying attention to the music business. I really don't anymore,I just write my stuff and play it where I can. I hope somebody gets it,but mostly..they don't.It requires too much thought.Ain't nobody got time for that shite.

please inform me what "real country" is.
honestly, you sound like someone who doesn't seek out anything good to listen to and dismisses anything new that is released.
it appears that you have a very narrow view of who gets to fit in the small box of "country" music in your mind. so is it anyone other than willie, merle, hank, or cash?
there's a lot of alt-country, independent americana flavored sub genre'd versions of country music currently doing VERY well commercially. sturgill simpson is absolutely killing it right now even though he's not played on commercial radio even though he won a grammy.
you honestly just sound like the people who say "rock is dead!" which it's certainly not. same thing with country music. you just won't find it in the mainstream for the most part.

The new brand of mainstream radio country is pretty bad
I just stick to my Prime Country on Sirius XM
Clay Walker
Alan Jackson
George Strait
Alabama
Clint Black

I like Jamey Johnson and all but dude hasn't released an album of original material in 7 years. He needs to get his fricking shite together.

He tried to create a country/EDM crossover hit and it was one of the worst songs of the decade.
Yes, I worked in country radio in the late 70s -early 80s. This type of vomitous garbage was all over the charts in those days.
Country's been dead before. So has rock, folk, R&B, and most other genres of popular music. Eventually someone will go back to basics and bring it back to life.

Not identified as country:
Murder By Death
William Elliott Whitmore
Seriously, if you want good country music, just start by searching for "alt-country" acts. That's where the real, heartfelt country lives.

I called Rock being dead a while back.
We've been left with a hybrid pop country to the masses.

Rock isn't "dead". That would mean rock music isn't being made.
Now rock music being played on fm radio isn't as big as it was in the 90's early 2000's but to say it's "dead" is asinine.

I'm surprised "The Mavericks" don't get more love here. They've put out pretty damn good new stuff over the last few years or so. Though it may not fall solely under the "traditional" banner, it's a ton better than most of the fecal matter broadcast on "country" stations today.

I get that he's supposed to be a parody and tongue in cheek but my god I think he's as bad as the maintstream country music. Like he's not an "actual" musician that plays "actual" music

Real country is the same as it's always been. It's true American music about living and loving and regular people
Real country hasn't changed, just like Merle and Waylon used to sing about real country is getting your heart broke, getting drunk, but also about guns and trucks and a good time.
There are guys out there trying to sing philosophical bullshite like isbell and neo neitzechism like sturgill that's not country, true country is fgl and Brantley Gilbert
